According to all reports Next Step had 2 floors of space at 225 W. Washington?

Thats around $1,000,000 a year in rent! Thats some BIG Money, Scam or No Scam.

This is something I know about and would be shocked this Landlord did not do some due dilligence on Next Step and WHERE they had been previousely in their 50 year history (per NSMS Website)

About 10 years ago I represented a deal there for 10,000 SF for an attorney and they made us provide tax retrusn for all partners and a 2 month security deposit, plus a letter of credit.

The only thing I can think about is that Next step found a sublease deal, which required no build out and thus the tenant didnt give a shit.

Any reporter wanna pick up on this one it's a great angle,

My office used to be in that building. It's a nice space and, yes, I had mahogany, rich, smelly mahogany.

Why is this board the only ones really investigating this?

I'll give the Sun-Times some time. I hope they look into all of this.

The real estate angle might be an important one. It seems odd that a business like this would operate from downtown rather than in some suburban corporate park w/ cheaper rent. And given the revelation in the Sun-Times that Hernandez referred North to someone on restructuring his mortgage in mid-'90s—whom he used—makes me think that Hernandez might be involved in some shady real estate dealings. Maybe Next Step had a deal with the property manager and Hernandez was skimming the rent payments.

Why didn't North mention the refinanced mortgage before? Does he have something to hide? To whom was North referred by Hernandez?

I think we should write to the author of the Suntimes piece and point him in certain directions, such as looking into the real north-Hernandez relationship, asking why north's checks didn't bounce, such as north hiding his ownership interest and many other intersting questions.

The year of the rat is at hand. The more revelations that come out about North concealing information, the more likely he's going to inform on Hernandez to save himself.

I disagree. Let the reporters in this city do their own homework. It's one thing to break a story, it's another to feed an angle. If a reporter can't figure out the logical path of this story (and full credit to BigFan for doing so, I don't mean any of that in a negative sense), that's on the reporter - the Webio story is batting practice compared to city politics.

Sorry, I can't wait for them to look. I can guide them if I wish, and I wish to do so.

You remind me of Hanible Lector. "I'll help you catch him, Clarice"

If we've learned one thing in this mess it's that Chicago's media needs all the help in can get.

Isn't the infamous Ditka line to Neal from Northlake: "My office is at 225 W. Warshington...(something something)...I'll whip your ass."?

Beardown, you and I and some others have known CSW was a fraud from the beginning.
I thought it was either a guy laundering money or a gigantic scam.

We were right, North, Kirk, and the others were and are fools.
The press fell for this shit by going to dinners, looking at April Rose and buying North's bullshit.

I think Beardown did both: called bullshit on CSW and leered at April Rose.

Doesn't look like lease of sublease. One of those virtual office dealies. Read the first line of the second paragraph.

bigfan, law firms are always scrutinized much more heavily because they are partnerships, rather than corporations. If they disolve without personal guarantees, there is no legal entity to pursue.

So, even though Hernandez' company was looking to lease much more space than your client, it probably did not have as intense of a backround check.
