In reality, WMVP was losing a lot of money on both the Bulls & White Sox, but their broadcast rights back then were included in the $21 million sale to ABC Radio in 1998 to become ESPN Radio 1000. I believe WSCR 670 The SCORE only pays about $2.5 million a year to carry the White Sox, compared to about $7.5 million ESPN Radio 1000 was paying previously. These days, because the Bulls produce their own broadcasts, WMVP does NOT pay a rights' fee to carry Derrick Rose and the guys, but I'm not sure how much the former WCKG-FM was paying to carry the Bulls that one season before they "Fresh"-ened their format and moved back to AM 1000. I also remember Uncle Jerry had issues with a certain former Sun-Times columnist and ESPN "Around the Horn" contributor named Jay Mariotti that may have forced Uncle Jerry to move his teams elsewhere on the dial...

SCR was the only bidder for the Sox. Had the Sox waited until the day after parade they could have doubled what SCR pays under their current deal.

I can buy into the acquisition of the White Sox ruining the Score's neutrality for some older listeners, but then again weren't they always in the tank for the Sox even without the rights (North, Huebner, Boers, Bernstein, Mulligan, Hood, Holmes, Rosenbloom, McNeil)? I'm guessing they called Wrigley Field a festering dump while praising the merits of The House That UNCLE JERRY Built Kinda But Not Really even before Reinsdorf paid them.
