Farrah Fawcett, 62, Dies of Cancer Farrah Fawcett,

Thursday June 25, 2009
Farrah Fawcett died Thursday at St. John's Health Center in Los Angeles after a lengthy battle with cancer, Usmagazine.com confirms. She was 62.

The Charlie's Angels star revealed she had anal cancer in 2006. The following year, she held a press conference to announce she was in remission, but her cancer returned shortly after.

After undergoing alternative treatments in Germany, the actress was treated at an L.A.-area hospital in April when her cancer spread to her liver.

"I’m holding on to the hope that there is some reason I got cancer and that there is something, that may not be very clear to me right now, that I will do," Fawcett said during an interview for the NBC documentary Farrah's Story that chronicled her three-year battle with the disease.

She added: "Everybody says they're praying for me, so I have to get well... when that many people pray!"

This week, Ryan O'Neal, Fawcett's on-again/off-again actor boyfriend of 27 years, announced that they will wed.

"I've asked her to marry me, again, and she's agreed," O'Neal, 68, said, adding that the two will tie the knot "as soon as she can say yes."

In May, O'Neal said that he had fallen more in love with Fawcett as he watched her bravely battle cancer.

"I know this, that in the last two years I loved her more than I've ever loved her -- ever," he said. "She's so much more of a woman ... powerful, courageous, fearless and all those adjectives. And I look at her with awe."

Throughout her battle with cancer, Fawcett has found support in O'Neal and their only son, Redmond O'Neal, 24.

Redmond -- who is in a drug rehabilitation program after being convicted of DUI and arrested for possession of narcotics -- was allowed to leave jail last month for three hours to visit his mother, a service that is offered to inmates with gravely ill family members.

Fawcett was born on Feb. 2, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas. In high school, she was voted "Most Beautiful" and went on to join the Delta Delta Delta sorority in college at the University of Texas at Austin. It wasn't until the late '60s when Fawcett took to acting and began doing commercials and TV guest spots.

In 1976, she rose to superstardom when the first episode of the TV series Charlie's Angels -- in which she played sporty undercover detective Jill Munroe -- aired on Sept. 22.

Around the same time, her now-famous swimsuit poster -- in which she was wearing a red one-piece and showed off tousled hair and a bright smile -- was released. It went on to sell a still-unrivaled 12 million copies and turned her wispy hairstyle into an international trend.

The actress, who refused to appear nude in films or magazines throughout her early career, caused another stir when she posed for Playboy in 1995 and again in 1997 when she turned 50 years old.

"God gave women intuition and femininity," Fawcett once said about the benefits of her good looks. "Used properly, the combination easily jumbles the brain of any man I've ever met."

Fawcett left Angels after only one year but began taking on more serious roles. She received an Emmy nod for her portrayal of a battered wife in 1984's TV movie The Burning Bed and received two more Emmy nominations for her roles as a predator in the miniseries Small Sacrifices and in 2004's The Guardian.

I had that poster up in my room when I was a yute.

Sad day - I liked Farrah.

Moment of silence....

Thank you.

The Day Farrah Fawcett Died Lyrics
edit | print
Send "The Day Farrah Fawcett Died" Ringtone to your Cell
birds in the air
never chirped the same
slobs in bowling alleys
never burped the same
they came to cry
shocked with disbelief
a broken mass of millions
all drowning in their grief

she was just an innocent
how could you lord?
they cried the day
that farrah fawcett died

Throughout the globe
every chinese man and turk
their unifying symbol
they really liked her work
but who's to blame?
no one made a move
until i find out who did this
nobody leaves the room

they say the road was icy
but that just don't add up
a bushy-haired intruder
another government cover up!
a drug-related overdose
a hunting accident
death at the hands of another,
i'll bet!

first JFK
and then we lost the king
thank god it must be over now
they say they come in threes
but still i ache
the world has lost a friend
i'll trade all
of my viewmaster reels
to see her once again

It's too bad, because Farrah Fawcett was quite the sex symbol of that era, and her battle with anal cancer was well documented. It wasn't that long ago that NBC News & MSNBC aired a two-hour documentary taking viewers inside Farrah's difficult battle. It was Monday when it was learned that Farrah was sent back to the hospital, and late last night on TMZ.com, reports of her near death began to surface around 11p Chicago time. It's a very sad time for that family, and for Ryan O'Neal, he was hoping to marry Farrah if she nodded yes. He made those remarks in an interview with Barbara Walters that was scheduled to air on the ABC News magazine "20/20" at 9p tomorrow. Heartbreaking!

I did too. She may have been my very first masturbatory fantasy.

Thanks for the report there Sharky. If Ryan wasn't such a schmuck in the first place, he wouldn't have to ask to re-marry Farrah.
