The final bank scene was a fantastic action sequence, especially if you have a great sound system, I will never forget when I first saw it...

It is a great movie, yeah it was kind of long, but I was expecting a great action flick and got a great overall movie, easily one of my favorites.

if anyone's interested:

If we are talking scenes and not dialogue, the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan does it for me. The viewer is transported to the beaches of Normandy.

Funny you should say that, dolphin... I was thinking that movie too... but a different part. That scene where he asks his wife if he's led a good life and then salutes the gravestone makes me cry like a baby... every time.

I can't even get through the youtube without getting all teary eyed. Admittedly I'm the dude that actually gets super choked up when the vets march down the street at the 4th of July parade... with my 4 year old asking me if I'm ok.

i was just bustin' on you's...i was primarily targeting "saving private ryan", though, not so much "schindler's list". trust me, i've balled at some movies that would get me kicked out of the man club pretty quickly.

Kind of surprised this hasn't come up:

Henry Hill: You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny.
Tommy DeVito: What do you mean I'm funny?
Henry Hill: It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy.
[laughs]
Tommy DeVito: what do you mean, you mean the way I talk? What?
Henry Hill: It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, the way you tell the story and everything.
Tommy DeVito: [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it?
Anthony Stabile: Tommy no, You got it all wrong.
Tommy DeVito: Oh, oh, Anthony. He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?
Henry Hill: Jus...
Tommy DeVito: What?
Henry Hill: Just... ya know... you're funny.
Tommy DeVito: You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little fucked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?
Henry Hill: Just... you know, how you tell the story, what?
Tommy DeVito: No, no, I don't know, you said it. How do I know? You said I'm funny. How the fuck am I funny, what the fuck is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what's funny!
Henry Hill: [long pause] Get the fuck out of here, Tommy!
Tommy DeVito: [everyone laughs] Ya motherfucker! I almost had him, I almost had him. Ya stuttering prick ya. Frankie, was he shaking? I wonder about you sometimes, Henry. You may fold under questioning.

It may not have the emotion of some of the others, but it's pretty funny and even better when you realize it was ad-libbed.

There are 5 maybe 6 scenes in Goodfellas I like better than that though.

Honestly, for me, Goodfellas is like two movies; the first two-thirds I love and the last third, not so much. It really starts to drag toward the end as Henry's life unravels.

yeah I guess I can see that...but its my favorite movie.

I like it all.

When Tommy shoots Spider in the foot
When they introduce all the wiseguys "hey I took care a dat ting for ya"

Regarding when Henry's life unravels: It kinda De-Entourages the movie...as in your not like living vicariously thinking...these guys are awesome...anymore. But the end has some great scenes. DeNiro shines toward the end. The tension between he and Henry when their eating breakfast discussing Henry's case...and when he's trying to kill Henry's wife...AWESOME

You nailed it. It's not that I don't like the end, it's just that it's such a stark reversal from the earlier parts of the film that maybe it's a bit off-putting to me.

Right I see your viewpoint. Also if you watch it knowing Henry Hill is a rat and will rat out Paulie and Jimmy...it makes it harder to watch it entourage style. Hard to be like...what a bad ass...when you know he's a rat.

But being based on a true story...I think its the perfect film.

From "Boogie Nights", the Wonderland scene, as I call it.

Some context. Since PT Anderson was obsessed with porn stars as using "identity" as a theme, or spine--think of the last scene, in which Eddie Adams *as* Dirk Diggler *as* Brock Landers is giving he/himself/and I a pep talk with his "member". Keep in mind a lot of this movie was based on John Holmes, and if you know anything about the guy, Wahlberg's performance will give you a hint to what he was like.

This is the scene that was taken almost directly from the actual 1981 hit known as the Wonderland Murders. The thing I love about the scene is what's going on that isn't being said.

The little Chinese kid tossing firecrackers. The mix tape music in the background. The excess. The loss of control. The few moments that the camera is holding on Dirk, shows that he is searching for something, and has no idea what it is. He's just lost in thought, lost in himself. The whole idea behind "Boogie Nights" is that it wasn't as simple as the title suggests. There was a lot of complexity, lost in the simplicity of lust and meaninglessness. Loss of identity. This is my second favorite scene/sequence in the film; the first being the "Donut/Dirk Jerk-It" scene. I think that's the most sad and wonderful of the whole film.

Anyways, here:
