 WHAT?!?! If there's another reason to not read EW...

Sheesh...again. I'm not saying "Vanilla Sky" was all that good; it was basically a cliff's notes version of the original. But it at least had a great soundtrack and a pretty good cast.

Why the fuck isn't "The Vanishing" or "Insomnia" on here, if they're going to hit that note? There are far worse remakes out there...most of them are horror films. Seriously, where's TCM or Hills Have Eyes? The Fog? Amityville Horror?

And as for best, where's "The Thing"? Or "The Ring"? And I can say "The Thing" because even if you want to use the excuse that it wasn't technically a remake, it was an adaptation of the original story "Who Goes There?", they list "Planet of the Apes" which is based on a book as well.

Jesus this magazine is awful.

I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but I think the modern King Kong (w/Jack Balck) is the best version.

i don't know if i'd agree that it's the best but i did really like it. i thought jackson did a great job with it. i think some of the CGI was painful, though.

I actually liked that movie so much, I bought the novelization. It wasn't a bad book, either.

The Departed is nothing like Internal Affairs...

I'm a big fan of both movies. I love when when Richard Gere is nailing the wife and the husband catches them and he shoots him in the foot.

Have to disagree on "The Longest Yard". I like both versions.

Adam Sandler actually did something right with that remake. Also,Courtney Cox looked unbeleivably hot in that movie!

I have to agree with this. "The Thing" and "The Ring" are two of my favorite horror films.

Wasn't "Never Say Never Again" a remake of "Thunderbolt?" if so, then that remake was fantastic, although I enjoyed thunderbolt as well...

"Of Mice and Men" with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich is the hands down best remake of all time.

I have to say, that was brilliant--I think in some ways it was even more powerful than the book itself. I think I've seen it 10 times, and it still gets me at the end scene. I have the soundtrack, too. Hands down Sinise & Malkovich's best efforts.

WZ, have you seen the original with Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney, Jr.?
Great acting. Amazing to watch a 32-year old Meredith.

i've seen all of the film adaptations, and while the first one was good, it was a bit sentimental, and i didn't care for the "town scene"; wasn't necessary to me. and the ending scene between the two of them wasn't as powerful as i thought the sinise/malkovich version was. subtlety is the key.

And Sinise and Malkovich are such talented actors. It's a joy to watch them work.

I saw Sinise in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" at the Goodman and will never forget the performance.
He was absolutely incredible.
