Why is everyone upset with Pappy's Crappy? His whole point is that radio is for the MASS market, not geared to guys that know Mac or are longtime listeners. You guys know Mac and like him and understand him. The point was just being made that casual listeners, which make up most of any stations audience, MIGHT get turned off by that type of conversation. that's all Pappy was getting at, as well as the original poster. I don't think it was meant as a personal attack.

Stu, Ed, and a few others, you shouldn't get so defensive, neither guy was attacking Mac, just making an innocent observation. The more listeners the better, no station makes money on a handful of friends and neighbors.

Wow SID, that was one of the better posts I've ever read from you. Not that I don't like your other thoughts, but there was no vitriol here. Nice.

Love the show. First time listening to Mac for an extended period of time. Like the viewpoints he brings to the table. Also like his honesty, such as how he's not interested in the Bulls unless they are winning. As a Cub fan, I like the opinions he's voiced regarding the North Side Train Wreck.

But I have a question: What is with this need to bring up wealth/material goods/name dropping?

I lost count on how many times Mac brings up watching something on a 60 inch HD/multiple T.V.'s. How he's going to play Olympia Fields. How he wanted Meatpants to take his Sox/Indians bet . How he hung out with the Sox at Spring Training during his time on the beach. How he bonded with Joe Crede.

Mac, I get it. You've got a sweet gig and all the trappings that go along with it. Why the need to remind everyone?

He's kind of like the Ed Farmer of radio hosts. It reminds me of the old joke: Check behind you, I think you dropped a name.

I honestly do love the show, but the "we're happy for you" drop could be played quite a bit during any one show.

And I'm sure this has been covered in an old post, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

I have gone through this entire thread...took two pots of coffee...and the simple solution is that if a host pisses you off, hit the damned button.

Don't think I was defending Mac as much as I was just stating an opinion about the show and it's content. He's a big boy and can comment if he likes and if some of you don't like him chatting about what he brings to the show more power to you and for those who do like it more power to you.

Mac is not curing cancer or trying to spilt the atom , he's doing a radio show from 9 to 1 and I really don't take it to heart that he owns a Benz or a boat or a pool. In the big picutre I enjoy what he brings to the table for 4 hours a day and from everything I've read so do most of you. Time to move on to Bears camp , Sox baseball and some Hawks talk.

Hope all of you have an awesome and Safe Holiday weekend. :bom:

Somebody brings some common sense to this thread!
This is supposed to be entertaining sports radio..not sociology 101.
If somebody doesn't like the talk about a boat in these economic times, they might consider a shrink rather than a radio show.
What a load of candyassed garbage..."I am offended by a radio personality I don't have to listen to".

And I'm NOT saying he IS alienating a significant portion of his listenership, I'm saying IF. For all I know at this point, it's about 6 pantsless people here that don't like his talking about his multiple TVs, etc. It's a point for discussion, which is what we do here--supposedly.

Direct hit....some of us had parents and grandparents go through the Fucking Great Depression.....Here we have some complete 'What about Me' crybabies who are somehow "hurt' by some guy on the radio talking about TVs, boats, golf, etc.

I guess the same people who have all of this resentment over "Mackeyland" and a boat don't hear the bits and pieces about Mac's autistic son and all the work he does for kids afflicted with autism.

I guess they miss the parts about him as a father.

Some petty folks want to feel sorry for themselves about a fucking TV.

Get a life.

Get a job.

Do your job.

GROW THE FUCK UP.

Now you're talking about my life. Except sometimes the beef would come from Aldi, and the car was a baby blue Ford Pinto (we used to call the Pitiful P)....

If I would have known this dead horse had been beaten to death, I wouldn't have posted this to begin with.

Like I said in my first post, this is my first time listening to Mac and I guess I'm not really used to hosts talking about the material goods they have accumulated because of their job.

I love the show and this is just something I'll accept as part of the Mackey package.

Matt, there is a huge difference between Danny Mac talking about a boat or a round of free golf and an absolute ass with no integrity like Mike North name dropping when it is quite obvious his on air opinions are obviously being compromised by what he thinks he is getting out of the deal.

McNeil is not putting material wealth in anyone's face with the intent of making them feel inadequate.

I wonder if Mac is in the Mackinac race this year?
Will the boat have a TV?

I didn't read Matt's post, nor the posts of others who have been critical of Mac about this, as being even remotely envious. I think that's been made pretty clear by the people who find it tiresome.

If it did, that wasn't my intention.

I figured maybe it was just a one or two time thing, but after listening for a couple of weeks it seems to be a regular part of his schtick. Hey, more power to him. Like I said...I get it, sweet gig. I'm just used to hosts that say "I watched the Sox game last night", not "I watched the Sox game last night on 60 inches of full HD beauty". After years and years of listening to a certain kind of delivery from hosts, this takes some getting used to. And by no means do I even equate this to a Mike North-like "Hey look at me, I give to charity" sort of delivery. Mac seems like the type of guy I'd like to sit down and have a cold Miller Lite with while enjoying a dip in the pool with some Allen Brothers steaks on the grill.

See, even I'm doing it now. I'm getting used to it already.

:D
