During his recent slide, even his hits sucked. They were all duck snorts that got in because they play him back so far. I heard the pre game show and basically Lou talked about trying to get Soriano to stay back on the ball because he has the quickest hands on the team and should be able to hit more line drives and not got fooled by the breaking balls when he stays back.

yes the guy popped out twice, but he did line out to thrid his first at bat and his 2nd at bat, was just a hard hit liner that kept rolling for a double. It was the 2 best balls he has hit in a month and it did look like he is trying to wait back on the ball.

This would be a huge breakthrough if he actually makes this effort to improve.

and in other news....

This same Soriano story repeats itself annually. I think he will heat it up though...and personally I'd like him to stay out of the lead off position for the rest of this year.

I was encouraged to see the line-out in the first inning, as well as the well struck ball that resulted in his double. I hope we continue to see line drives from him.

Good observation bf. The hits Soriano had this weekend was a result of luck more than anything. The at bats last night were better. I just hope they keep him where he's at, even if he gets hot.

The flipside, Old Man River, is that Kosuke is functioning well at the top of the order. He's getting on base and it's set up a couple big innings.

It's amazing what happens when a leadoff hitter actually gets on base. I love the concept. Tonight didn't go so well for Kosuke, but I still like the move. I know Theriot wouldn't be a bad leadoff guy either but I like him better hitting second.

And you guys thought I was nuts a few weeks ago when I suggested that Fukedome be put in the leadoff spot. He's no Ricky Henderson, but the Cubs are a better team with Fuke leading off.

He's doing a fine job of holding down the leadoff spot until that '07 waiver claim on Pods is processed!

Quote:
Slumping left-fielder Alfonso Soriano sat for the third time in eight games Wednesday and isn't at all happy about it.
When manager Lou Piniella spoke to Soriano last week in Pittsburgh and told him he would be giving him a few more days off, Soriano said he understood. But Soriano was miffed when he learned his name wasn't in the starting lineup Wednesday after he had a pair of hits Tuesday night.
"That's why I'm mad," Soriano said. "If he had told me yesterday, then I wouldn't come today ready to play."
Piniella typically gives Soriano a heads-up when he will get a day off, but declined to do so this time.
"That's a surprise to me today," Soriano said. "Because I think he could have said to me last night, 'OK, take a day off,' especially because [Thursday] is an off day. I'd be like, 'OK, I'll take the two [days]." But I like to know before I come here."
Soriano, hitting .182 over his last 40 games, said his knee pain isn't enough to prevent him from playing.
"I can play," he said. "If I can play, it's not bothering me. It bothers me if I'm not playing though."
Asked if he would talk to Piniella about his complaint, Soriano simply replied: "No."

If you're upset you're not playing, start fuckin hitting.
Stop making faggy leaps in the outfield.
Stop dogging your way into 2nd when you DO hit the ball.
Learn how to field your damn position.
Show some frickin respect to your manager.
In other words, shut the fuck up, Sorian.

He (and Colon) need to know thier place. Unacceptable to be talking/acting like that to the media.

he now actually has a 5 game hitting streak and his at bats are MUCh better, as I noted.
