I hear a rumor that someone started a rumor thread with no rumors.

Latest has the Cardinals as 'In' on Roy Halladay. That would blow balls.

The Cardinals - Halladay rumor is said to be very serious. Apparently the Cards GM basically said to send the Jays their minor league rosters and have them circle 5 names to get the deal done.

Minor deal in the works between Pirates and Rockies? Rockies are said to be interested in Freddy Sanchez and willing to part with one of their top prospects in Eric Young Jr.

I'm not buying the Doc to the Cards stuff. This is exactly what they were saying about Holliday a few weeks ago.

I heard Pods is/was on waivers, and that the Cubs claimed him. That crazy old Hendry!

What, you got a no trade clause? You ain't a five and ten guy.
Bigfan doesn't hand out no-trade clauses like that idiot Hendry does. Pack your bags, pal.

Julio Lugo is on the way out in Boston. The overpaid middle IF is being shopped (assuming the BoSox would pick up most of his salary which is 9MM this year and next) and may just be released when several guys come back from the DL.

Im hearing according to Buster Olney the only sticking point in Halladay to the Cards is the Cards don't want to deal their high 3rd base prospect - the name escapes me.

they probably want colby rasmus, brett wallace and maybe even young catcher bryan anderson or pitcher jess todd. Rasmus will be solid, wallace can rake but has an awful body and isn't great at defense. Anderson hits ok, but is still very young and a good catching prospect. Todd is downright filthy with his cutter, but probably projects to be a set up guy. Wallace is probably the guy they are hung up on.

UMN - yep, it was Wallace they are hung up on. According to reports, this guy is a can't miss.

I say prospects are all suspects until they show it in the bigs. I'd be surprised if the Cards don't pull the trigger. I hope they don't, but this makes them an instant pennant contender. I'd take Halladay/Carpenter/Wainwright over what the Dodgers throw out.

I think Todd is on the list of players that may be going to Cleveland as the player to be named later in the DeRosa deal. I'm still not buying Halladay to the Cards. I think he's heading to LAA.

I think they will do it. I don't think they are really counting on wallace to play third for them. I've seen him play 7 or so times and you really do not want him in the field and their first baseman is going nowhere. He needs to be a dh/1b. He also is striking out 1 in ever 5 ab's while still hitting close to 300.

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney didn't count out the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies as a potential destination for Roy Halladay. Although he didn't name specific names, Olney said that the Phillies may also have the kinds of young prospects that the Toronto Blue Jays want in return for Halladay. The signing of Pedro Martinez by the Phils yesterday may only be the beginning, even though Pedro's already on the 15-day DL.

It's not the prospects, it's the money. Any team that trades for Halladay HAS to sign him to an extension. The Cards will have to sign Roid-Face to a half billion dollar deal in a couple years and I don't see how they fit both Halladay and Roid-Face in the budget along with 23 other players. Same deal with the Phillies. They have Rollins and Werth as free agents in '10, Howard and Hamels in '11, and Victorino in '12. That's A LOT of money to keep that team together.

That's why I think he's going to LAA. They have the talent to acquire Halladay and the payroll flexibility to sign him to an extension.

If the Anaheim Angels get Roy Halladay, the Garth Brooks-looking Mike Scioscia will face the James Garner/Joe Pesci-looking Joe Torre and the Dodgers in an "All SoCal" World Series. I'm sure FOX Sports will love that!

About 2 weeks ago, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal worked the Dodgers/Padres' game in San Diego from field level. Rosenthal told Dick Stockton & Eric Karros that the Dodgers' weakest link was the lack of quality starting pitching by Joe Torre's staff. In plain English, it wouldn't surprise me either if the Dodgers are also exploring what it'll cost them to land Roy Halladay or another starting pitcher that could put the Bums over the top.

Speaking of Ken Rosenthal, on today's "MLB on FOX" pregame show, as much as the James Garner/Joe Pesci-looking Joe Torre wants Roy Halladay, even the Dodgers might not necessarily be able to get the hard-throwing right hander in a trade before the July 31st deadline. The name the Dodgers are said to be dangling is lefty Clayton Kershaw, and there could be some serious $$$$ that may ultimately be a dealbreaker.

Cardinals are said to be in talks for Matt Holliday, sources say there is a 50/50 chance of this happening.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com isn't so sure about that, Schmitty...That's what he said last Saturday. Besides, the Cardinals just acquired shortstop Julio Lugo from the Red Sox in a deal sending Chris Duncan to Boston yesterday.
