Telander's time at SCR was fun bad.

Telander put a band together and played like once a week. Telander singing and playing guitar, Doug on Cuzzoo(sp), Cy Strezo or Andy Garcia was one of the producers playing the spoons I think. Just bad. I think Hood may have hummed a few bars before bowing out. Eric Beverly also was a producer on this show.

Telander had some give away with a dump truck noise where he would give away trinkets from his trips to various big games. Something about stuff from his garage. It was painful to listen to because Telander would just name drop and act cool for being at big events.

Around xmas time, he was constantly talking about the book he wrote describing his time in the Kansas City Chiefs training camp and quoting it, like we were at a poetry reading or something. That is close to the time that Hood just could not take anymore. His disgust was palpable. Hood called him out on his northside lifestyle (a little bush league) but accurately called him out on constant name dropping. I wrongly thought that Hood was being contrarian to inject some life into the discussions. It became clear quickly it was more than that. Telander could pull a different interview, a couple of writers from S.I. were not bad. But each time, he would interject himself into whatever the conversation was so everyone knew he used to write there and how he was buddy buddy with all of them.

The day Telander left, it was an "ok" show. He said something to the effect that it was "good to leave on a high note, it's been fun, I'm done." You could here a pin drop for a second and then both Doug and Mully were like "don't do this. Are you serious?" If you can sound embarrassed on the radio that is what they sounded like. Telander says his good byes to Cy and Eric and the fans and away he goes. This was just after the Super Bowl 2005.

My apologies if this is boring and already talked to death under the "Dinner Party" thread. This blow up seemed to effect Eric Beverly as he then worked for Mike Murphy. Something happened. I thought that Eric outed Murphy about flipping off the microphone to Mulligan described by Drop In. Eric was out about the same time. Mully it seemed felt bad about the Beverly thing. It came up in one of the shows, but I cannot remember exactly what was said.

Pretty nasty riff between Bernstein and Steve Olken(sp) over Ron Santo. Berns accused Santo of being a fraud and a boozer and being a horrible representative of the cause. Steve Stone was in studio w/ B&B. He agreed in a politically correct way that maybe Santo's lifestyle had something to do with his condition. This was a Friday. Olken at the time was a Saturday host with Dave Baum for a period, and then a solo show for an hour or so. Olken's son apparently has diabetes and teed off on B&B for being, well B&B about Santo. Olken felt Santo was not treated right and that Berns was in effect making light of a disease that affects many kids. Olken fielded calls for his whole show ranting about B&B. Following Monday, B&B had to spend several days explaining their position, but not apologizing. They stuck to their original premise which they have continued to stick to, and that is the wrong guy is face for the organization. Both had their arguments on the airwaves. I feel for Olken, but really B&B have the stronger argument IMHO. I don't know where Olken is today.

I believe it might have been 2001 bears season when Silvy was on the radio in the morning on Mondays after Bears games breaking down for an hour what happened the day before. It might have been a two hour show, but this guy was on hold for about an hour and a half and he got on and basically started ripping Silvy for being on hold so long, and basically acted like a dick to Silvy trying to upstage him and shit. Well Silvy muted the guy and told him he was going back on hold and learn how to act. For some reason that always stood out to me.


Then there was the whole Bruce Levine cue the music thing, which just impressed the hell out of me. Really. Really.
He is gonna come on the Waddle and Silvy show and pull this. Thats your BASEBALL EXPERT. Hilarious.

John Paxson just happen to be listening to MJH a few years ago when Danny Mac gave Paxson a thumbs down during Critics at XL. I believe it had to do with Paxson needing to "grow a pair"...

To Mac surprise, Paxson called in and chastised Mac on air. Mac "just took it".

Who could ever forget the time Uncle Jerry told "Silvy & Carmen" on White Sox Opening Day 2006 that "you'll never get another bite of the apple" when an interview with the White Sox/Bulls' Owner & Chairman went horribly wrong...Shortly thereafter, the Bulls decided to move their radio rights from ESPN Radio 1000 to 105.9 WCKG... A "Fresh"-ening of 105.9 FM's format after only 1 year prompted the Bulls to move their radio broadcasts back to WMVP just days before the start of the 2007-08 season in New Jersey. Interestingly enough, Uncle Jerry is "Lunch with a Legend", I believe next Wednesday with "Waddle & Silvy". I wonder if Silvy will get another bite of that apple...

One of the dumbest and most irresponsible moments was shortly after 9/11 an American Airlines flight crashed after takeoff in Queens.
Mike North and Fritzy immediately pronounced it an act of terrorism.

Mike North's reaction to 9/11 was pure chicken shit.

Terrorists were everywhere and we were all going to die.

That is when North started heading South.

2007 Mike North was hosting a show across from Wrigley and I believe ripping Pierzynski's poor play. Ozzie called up unannounced and starts dropping f-bombs all over the place...defending his players You could catch it all on the stream. North tried to regain control of the show, but really had a tough time keeping Ozzie's mouth clean and interview him. Ozzie did not care. It was beautiful. Supposedly after the show North went over and patched things up. It gave North's show a shot in the arm...free pub when he needed it.

Was this when Ozzie gave A.J. a day off against the cubs in favor of Toby Hall?

Correct. It was 2007. Not very old, but good.

DICK JAURON!!!!! was a classic. I also swear (no one believes me) one time in the '80s during a Cubs game, a fan in the bleachers threw an inflate-a-mate onto the field and Steve Stone told Harry Caray "there's your girlfriend". It was I think the 6th or 7th inning and Harry was so mad(and drunk), he didn't talk the rest of the game. Honorable mention to the "Maybe Mike North knows" lady. They should've made her a beat reporter.

There was also a Bulls post game show a few years back where Pax called in to defend himself against callers. The OG (Yes he lives) proceeded to verbally fellate Pax for the next few minutes. It was embarrassing even for OG. Silvy replayed it for the next few days on his show.

As for Mac and Coppock, I seem to remember Mac playing a few less than flattering Coppock voicemails on air in which Coppock was ripping him and the Score.

Remember North asking The Human Highlight Reel what he was up to these days and if he still followed the NBA at all? Dominique then proceeded to tell him he was the President of Basketball operations for the Hawks. Also, North was dumbfounded by the success of DeRosa. He claimed he and the rest of the baseball viewing world had never heard of him, despite him being in the league for years.

Even better, the Jerry Lewis impersonator called into North's show and did a full interview with Mike who thought he was talking to the real Jerry Lewis.

When Howard Stern first came to town he said he would fuck the skull of Eric Mueller's dead dad on stage when he became #1 in the market. He also wished AIDS on Larry Wert's kids.

I heard him doing a commercial for sport clips the other day...1$ out of every haircut on ONE DAY goes to money for soldiers overseas to make a freaking phone call. OK, charity is charity not going to hate but to donate such a trivial amount- I mean a haircut is what 15-20$ and they're giving a whopping 1$ and only one one day at that- he's going way over the top about how much they care and what a great company they are.

The day Steve & Garry had Sam Kinison in the studio. Sam called Slash and convinced him to come up to the studio. Slash was beyond shitfaced, and showed up with beer. I remember Steve saying that in 30 minutes Slash drank 12 beers and smoked a pack of cigarettes, and he had to hit the dump button 20 times. Damn, I miss the old AM 1000 lineup. You could turn it on at 5:00 a.m and leave it on until Coppock was over.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned this one yet, but I was there standing next to Spiegel the day it happened so I'll mention it.

...when The HFC back in '97 had Erik Kramer on and Mac asked him why he was smiling on the sidelines towards the end of the game when they were losing badly. The exchange between Mac and Erik was so awkard and tension filled that Spiegel's jaw just about dropped to the ground and he said that'll be the last time they ever have him on.

Mac: <paraphrasing> "Why were you smiling and laughing during the game when you guys were losing?"
Erik: "Who's this?"
Mac: "I'm talking to you buddy. To me you're just another quarterback if that's the attitude you're gonna have."
Erik: "Easy pal."

Classic stuff. A moment I'll never forget.
I believe they've mended fences since then and Mac & Spiegs had him on, if I'm not mistaken.

I remember that! I also remember Kramer coming under fire for a couple of last chance passes in the endzone to end games that ALWAYS ended up 10 yards over anybodys head out of bounds. It was beleived Kramer wanted his QB rating to stay high!
