Let me first say that I had a great time at the event and it was really cool of the guys to allow three of your buddies attend the event. The MJH/ESPN crew did a nice job of running things. There was no confusion or chaos to get from one place to the next. I might have a few things to say that may sound negative, but it's just some criticisms for next time they may want to think about.
Alright, so I was one of the unlucky bastards that had an early tee time (7:48am) for this long ass day. I got there about 20 minutes before tee time. ESPN had a table at the side of the clubhouse and bag boys waiting to grab our clubs and stuff. They handed out the tickets for the day to me and then asked me too see if I had an X on the back of any of my tickets to see if I had won the free soft cooler....I did so an early score for me.
Got to our carts where they had our stuff set up. First time I had used GPS on a golf cart to track how far away your ball is from the hole...very cool. We had coolers on our carts where our "Free Miller Lite" was. There were a total of two Miller Lites in the cooler on each cart. Everybody got one Miller Lite....uhhh what?! I saw a tub with more Miller Lites and a buddy of mine and I decided to stock up where a Miller Lite rep was like, "no dude, you're set. Beers are in the cooler." I checked with others and everyone had just 2 in their cooler. My buddy and I went ahead and grabbed quite a few more. I thought that was kind of cheap of Miller Lite to do that the way this event had been advertised and talked about on air.
The golf course was awesome. I parred the first two holes thinking I'd end up shooting very well. Oh no...I ended up shooting a 104. Yea, I know that's god awful, but the water lined fairways can be a bitch if you aren't always hitting the ball straight. Either way, I should have shot better. Jurko was a three groups ahead of us which ended up being funny as hell because throughout the entire day about every two holes I'd hear Jurko's recognizeable voice go "God Damn It." It was hilarious because it was like every 25-30 minutes...like clock work. You'd swear the guy ended up shooting a 120 the way he sounded all day. He finished with a 91 I believe.
Afterwards talked to him and he was meeting the group I had brought. One of my buddies names said his name was Scott and Jurko goes, "Did you say Jimmy?" Ha, now we see why had so much trouble calling that woman from Connie's pizza Ambrosia (He referred to her as Gretchen for the entire day when she brought pizzas to MJH one day for those of you who didn't hear that story on the show). Talked about our round and Jurko told us he should have shot far better but "mayonaisse" had ruined his day. He was eating a sandwich and mayo got all over his hands. He attempted to dry them off, but apparently didn't get them clean and he about lost his "tree-iron" in the air on the first shot after that. Apparently couldn't get a good grip for the next couple of shots. Delevitt said this was Jurko's story about why a shot would be bad after I would hear a "God Damn It" on the course. From what I could gather I don't think Harry actually played the entire 18...just kind of took shots here and there...of Tequila. Thing is, he seems to not be affected by that stuff whenever I've seen him drink it. He must be immune to it. Mac had a late tee time and no one really saw much of him as we pretty much all went to the horse races after Mac had washed up after his round.
On to the buses, yea I said buses. For some reason they got two charter buses for 40+ people. No complaining here as every man had both seats to themselves. MJH didn't hop on the buses due to wanting to have their cars for the end of the day. I could understand that with two guys living in N'West Indiana and Jurko having to do a live show the next day. I think it would have made the bus trip a bit more entertaing with everyone on the same bus plus everyone from the station as well. Miller Lite came back strong with pretty much as many beers as you can drink from Woodridge to Arlington.
Horse Races up next and I will admit, I wanted to watch Harry be in his element. I think he was mad at me though when we talked in the morning due to our continued Kevin Kline disagreement and the fact that he was most mentioned when I sent in all of our predictions of the Manniversary to the guys to read on air Thursday. I told him we kid because we love...but he was like "Ehhh, harry here...ehh." This was the event I think, along with Mac I might add, should have been done differently. There was no tent for the group as it had been talked about on air, or at least it felt like that was discussed on air? We all had our own sections to sit at. This made the event not that social friendly at all. As Mac said to me earlier, "I thought we'd be able to fraternize more at the races." Free food and a pop at the races. No free alcohol. Again, I kind of thought this was an all day event of freeness and Miller Lite was going to pony up the entire day. A lot of people were kind of surprised by that. Again, no necessarily bitching because there was so much free fun throughout the day, but the way the event was talked about kind of sounded like Miller Lite was going to take good care for us. Maybe they didn't want anyone puking? Still bought some drinks with my own money. I did enjoy the races and sat by Harry for some of it. I knew a little about racing, but he ended up teaching me how to read a program correctly. So many damn big and small numbers of jitterish when explaining each horse. Harry did a ncie job of breaking it down. I won my first race betting win, place, and show (dif $ amounts) on one horse. After that, I took Harry's advice once and saw my horse die the last few seconds of the race. The other race I had the same horse without knowing Harry did as well and the horse sucked ass big time. I gave Harry some shit for it, but I still could tell he did know what he was talking about. Again, no tent to chat it up with everyone and knock downa few beers. I thought this would be the event wear it'd be more party like with the drinks flowing and knockin' downa few shots in a reserved tent with our own tellers...again, I think Mac thought that's what was going to go down as well. Later at the Sox game, he offered the idea of going fishing instead jokingly...or was he?
No, Harry and Mac did not have any scary embraces like the one seen on these boards.
From Arlington to US Cellular Miller Lite provided...NOTHING! No beer at all to drink for this hour and a half drive so even if you had a decent buzz it was gone by the time you got to the game. I'm not sayin I was trying to get completely hammered, but I thought again Miller Lite kind of dropped the ball there for what this day was dubbed to be.
The Miller Lite Party Deck we were at was pretty fuckin' sweet. We got beer tickets (yes, Miller Lite gave you two beers for the game, joy!) and sucked those down in no time. The area had a billiards table, a bar, video games, a dance floor and free food. The deck is lower suite level near the left field foul pole. You'd never notice from the outside what was all offered in that area. This was where the most fraternizing took place. Good times and the beer started flowing then even if it was out of your own pocket (I mean, I wasn't going to be a cheap ass!) No real stories of puking or anyone doing anything stupid. Jurko was cracking me up with some of his stories from the days he lived in Jacksonville. He used to have part ownership in a cigar shop before he found out it was a front for storing and trafficking cocaine. Everyone also thought he said they were whorring out checks as well but later Jurko explained he said humidors...even though we all heard whors. Anyway, the sherrif had pulled him aside and told him the situation of what went on there and Jurk to his cigars and humidors and busted out "d'air."
Jurk mentioned Pastor a bit briefly with me and chuckled at the name he was given by Feder. He said Pastor wasn't much of a decision guy on his own as he usually looks up to the uppers on what to do in situations...cough Mac and Harry. Sounded to me like there was a possibility this could have been completely handled in house with ESPN really caring what took place. Seemed like Spaceball was trying to do the right thing through all of this as I had suspected earlier, but his hands were tied.
Jurko also mentioned to me why he was late for the game (I believe it was a third inning arrival by the Good Kid). He missed two exits to get to US Cellular said the hell with it because he was too hungry and grabbed some donuts at Dunkin' Donuts. He apparently was still up for donuts as he told me he'd be right back because he needed to grab a donut. He came back and had a hot dog with relish.
Harry seemed like he had worked up a pretty good buzz during the Sox game as i saw him drinking beer. I think beer may actually be what hits him harder as he started to look a little clueless from time to time and couple sentences said to me didn't quite make much sense.
I know I didn't really have anything juicy, but I'm not going to just make things up so good dolphin can get off on the gossip and info. It was a pretty tame crowd and MJH behaved themselves well. I do wish I had asked Mac if I could get an honest opinion on our new favorite show to beat down Salisbury and Rosenbloom, but forgot. He probably wouldn't have said anything alarming, but I wish I would have at least asked him point blank if he though Sean was the worst arguer of all-time since he never actually makes a point and just tries to make anyone else feel insignificant around him. What an idiot...I did drop the ball on that. But again, it was about having a fun day off. Again, it was a great day and I thank all of those guys over there for having me there and putting on a great event. We continued the night back in the 'burbs, but didn't last long. It was one long ass day. Glad I was a part of it. Would have been a hell of a lot more interesting if 40 people from this board had attended. I can't even imagine the stupidity that would have went down.
