Call me crazy but I thought it was some great radio hearing Mac and Pants going after each other a bit there.

I'm with you, they are legitimately going at it. This is great stuff.

I thought it was awful & certainly will not help Dans reputation. He basically said that it is ok for reporters to "get on their knees" to get the story if they want to. Meat to Mac to task for his lack of morals & ethics.

The discussion was pretty much along the lines of how far you would go to get a story.

Mac has no problem with a reporter doing whatever it takes to get a scoop. Be it sleeping with, sharing drugs, etc.

Meatpants thinks Mac is nuts for this stance (I agree).

I think Mac is blurring the lines between using your sexuality or being friendly with an athlete with completely whoring yourself out. He's not saying he would do it, he's saying he's not bothered by others doing it. Still an odd stance...

He's just trying to justify having slept with Jon Garland.

Meats biggest concern is the journalistic integrity... and Mac is admitting reporters should do what it takes to get the story. Meat pointed out that if a reporter is sleeping with a ballplayer, wouldn't that reporter be more likely to report on them in a positive light?

I guess this means Bruce Levine must be having sex with Jim Hendry.

Then Meat exposed a CBS TV Female morning show peson who broke up the marriage of a Male CBS TV guy...and said that he might get fired for saying this, but oh well...
He mentione both names but I dont remember them.
As for Mac, he is really losing me with this discussion this morning.

I predict...Danny Mac will win WYC crappin' this week.

Another aspect of this argument is Mac admitting it's a waste of time to clench your fists over how other people do their job. "It's a waste of time to try to change things you can't control."

Odd? Maybe

But to some media people the story is all that matters. Lot of people advance their career by any means neccessary. Is it right? Probably not. Is it moral? Definitely Not. Is it an effective way to advance in your profession? maybe.

As far as "sharing drugs"...If im a reporter and I know an athlete will feel more at ease and possibly a better story...Id get him high.

Im sure reporters have a lot of methods of getting "in" with a subject.

I gotta agree with Mac's Machiavellian stance on this...Do what you gotta do.
I wont stop you. Everyone has their personal limits. Some will do anything. Its just the way it is.

So let me get this straight:

Mac = Good Story over Journalistic Integrity?

Wow...

Yet he apparently (dont listen...but have seen several comments) advances his career by not taking his boss to task on the air as much as he should.

I agree that it seems that the story at the end of the day is what matters to most people. It is hard to trust the integrity of the story though when it is achieved by immoral means though.

My only thought about this is, who is Mac sleeping with/drugging to write his thought provoking Sun-Times pieces?

Agreed. I bet even a few people who are listening to W & S who are reading this board have flipped down the dial to listen.

Maybe Mac is taking a page from LoHo's book and is turning heel. He's spewing immoral thoughts, attacking board members...what do you guys think? It worked so well for Larry...

My personal opinion on the Erin tapes is that it was WRONG for someone to do that. That being said Erin uses her sexuality ALL the time to her advantage and obviousely its been working. She got the job BECAUSE of her looks, period. She is very friendly with a lot of the people she covers and is "flirt" and plays to the camera at all times.
Again not right what was done to her and the people should pay for it.............

I hope you don't mean Elmhurst Steve, that wasn't even close to being an attack. I might have missed something though as my boss has been by my desk a lot during that convo.

Well he went after people criticizing his show.

And of course there are the anti Bryan Adams remarks, those were uncalled for.

It can't possibly be better than yesterdays Judy and Cathy-esque conversation about the color of Stewart Cink's shirt.

Sure Erin looks great...but she also really does have a great personality & does a good job.
Obviously good looks are important in TV, but dont let Erins good looks make you think that she isnt good at what she does. As far as sideline reporters go, she's the best, regardless of looks.

Not shocked. Just disagree with him. I've listened to Mac long enough to know what his take will be on most stories. I'm just not big on the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" position that he's taking. I find it strange when people mistake not being able to change a situation with condoning a situation. It sounds like Mac is saying there is nothing you can do about somebody sleeping with someone else for a story, so it must be ok...
