Writer and film director John Hughes, whose films in the 1980s depicted teen angst on the North Shore, died of a heart attack in New York today, his publicist said.

As a tribute, we should vote for the best 80's movie ever directed by John Hughes. Here is how we do it. You get 3 votes. You can add three to one movie, subtract 3 to one movie or split them up. Every movie starts with 20 points. Once a movie gets to zero, it is eliminated. Last movie standing, is the top voted. One vote per avatar. (you mutliple mults may be able to sway their opinion on this one) Once a movie is removed, you get another 3 votes.
I'll start:
21-The Breakfast Club (+1)
20-Sixteen Candles
21-Weird Science (+1)
20- Ferris Bueler's Day Off
20-Uncle Buck
19- Plains, Trains, and Automobiles (-1)

This sucks. He loved to film movies in Chicago....

I guess we'll have to look to George Tillman and Robert Teitel to continue the tradition of filming most of their movies here....

I didn't realize he completely left the public eye. Last photographed in 2001. Beardown, I heard he stopped going in public because of Drew Hayes' decision to not use many producers as hosts in the late 90's.

I believe he had a farm just over the state line in central Wisonsin.
This sucks - I was friends with his son in the early 90's and had been to the
house in Lake Forest a few times. I loved his movies, and his family was great.
RIP indeed. :(

Don't let my shot at Beardown mean any disrepect to John Hughes. Awesome director, checked out too soon.

Sorry to read this, this guy had his hand in just about every classic comedy from the '80's.

quote from YAHOO:"wrote or directed such hits as "National Lampoon's Vacation," "Pretty in Pink," "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" and "Uncle Buck." "

To play your game:
Plane,trains & automobiles: +1
Uncle Buck: +2

:( :( This sucks, I was waiting for his next film.

And what will Ringwald and Michael-Hall do for work now?
(Save it, I know they've had more roles.)

O God, ease our suffering in this, our moment of great despair. Yea, admit this kind and decent [man] into thy arms of thine heavenly area, up there. And Moab, he lay us upon the band of the Canaanites, and yea, though the Hindus speak of karma, I implore you: give [him] a break.

This game is worthless without the inclusion of "Vacation."

I went by the IMDB list of movies that he produced. The list can include Vacation if you want. Although I don't think that this game will last much longer.

Killer V, Harold Ramis, not John Hughes, directed "National Lampoon's Vacation", circa 1983. John Hughes wrote it and the movie starred Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid, the late John Candy & a very young Christie Brinkley. Also, a pretty cool theme song "Holiday Road", performed by Fleetwood Mac's Lindsay Buckingham, at the start of the movie. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", which Hughes definitely directed, is SHARK's favorite movie.

Molly Ringwald still does it for me.

+ 3 for Sixteen Candles.

"She's getting Mar-eed" - "Married?" - "Yes Mar-eed". Priceless.
