Posting here instead of RIP - I always thought he gave a good listen Saturday morning on the way to a golf course.

Phil Kosin, a veteran broadcaster who founded the Illinois Women’s Open golf tournament, died Tuesday after a four-year battle with cancer.

After attending Western Illinois and working for various suburban newspapers and radio outlets, Kosin founded Chicagoland Golf newspaper in 1989.

His Illinois Women’s Open, the top competitive event for the area’s women golfers, had its 15th staging earlier this month at Mistwood in Romeoville.

Kosin also hosted the Chicagoland Golf Radio Show on WSCR (670-AM) on Saturday mornings. Funeral arrangements are pending.

I always enjoyed the show in the morning whether heading out to
play or going to workout. I actually called in a few months ago but
after 15 minutes on hold I got to where I was going and hung up.
Had no idea he was sick so this is a bit surprising. I hope that they
can keep this show going somehow, but no idea who would take
it over.

Ed Sherman, who now covers golf & "The Biz of Sports" for ChicagoBusiness.com, sat in for Phil this past Saturday along with The SCORE's Brian "The Whipping Boy" Paruch on "The Chicagoland Golf Show". Check out www.ChicagoBusiness.com for Ed's blog on this story.

That's real sad. I liked Phil's pacing on the show (he didn't care!)

Gosh, I'm thinking back to the old fishing show that used to come on before the golf show... Would be an oddity on today's radio.

Feel for the guy and his family, but it wasnt a good show.

Rosenblog explained that is why he says "Now we start our broadcasting day"

I enjoyed the show. Nothing like waking up early on Saturday morning with a severe headache, getting ready for/driving to work, and listening how some fortunate bastards are on their way to the course.

Sorry T-Bone for not getting to your call. Often if Phil had a guest he would keep them for the better part of an hour. Thanks for the kind words and please keep listening. Ed Sherman will carry on through the remainder of this season with a permanent co-host to be determined.

Rosey ought to know about bad shows, he's been on two. This new one sucks, maybe it's just Rosey who sucks.

Not a problem regarding the call. He had a guest on and like you mentioned, Phil loved
to talk golf so I think it went a little longer than expected. I will continue to tune in and
give Sherman a try.

What little Paruch/Rosenbloom I've heard has been okay. I don't exactly love the Rosenblog, but as an on-air guy, I think he's a good listen. Nice dry sense of humor. Paruch is always good, too. So yeah.

ChicagoBusiness.com's Ed Sherman, who pinch hit for Phil Kosin last Saturday morning before news of Phil's death became known, will host "The Chicagoland Golf Show" come 6a tomorrow and for the rest of the golf season on 670 The SCORE & 670thescore.com. Ed will have more to say about Kosin's death, plus will have the likes of Sun-Times golf writer Len Ziehm and the Golf Channel's Rich Lerner among the guests.
