Anyoen else excited as all hell to see this movie? Another Peter Jackson joint, and not a single "famous" actor in the bunch (which, in my opinion, means it will be even more impressive).

Peter Jackson produced it. The director is a 29 year old dude.

I'll probably torrent it.

Not to hijack the thread, but knowing that you guys are movie buffs, have any of you seen "Drag Me to Hell"? I just got a copy of it last night and wondered if it is worth a spin this weekend in the DVR.

Dave, I am pretty confident W_Z reviewed this one. If you respect his thoughts on
movies that thread shouldn't be more than a page or two deep on the movie section.
I thought he liked it from what I remember.

Thanks Tbone, I'll take a look.

I utilize the "view new posts" when I come here and lose threads more than a day or two old otherwise.

Not a problem, I do the same thing with the "new posts".
I just happened to remember that movie for some reason.

This should have been Halo, damnit!

This is the movie that Peter Jackson and the "29 year old dude" (don't feel like looking up how to spell his name) made when the Halo movie fell through...

Does look interesting, but I doubt I'll see it, just because I choke up at the thought of what could have been...

funny you should mention it lipid...i just came back from it.

see the shoutouts section.

this is hands down the best movie i've seen this year. it kicks ass while also making you think. it's sci fi at its best, and it looks fabulous.

there are a few questions i have about what the main character's purpose is to "science" later in the film, but i think the movie has some great symbolism, albeit fairly obvious.

:D :D :D :) out of :D :D :D :D

I thought it was ok. Would not see it twice. Ithought it would have been a better ending if it turned out that the "black fluid" was going to be used by the Aliens to infect the planet and the "pilot" alien was lying the whole time about fuel!

i thought that, too, pasta, but that would've gone against what the movie was all about, which was tolerance.

thinking back on it, maybe this isn't *the best* movie of the year so far i've seen, but it's probably my favorite. we'll see what ole' tarantino has in store next week with inglorious basterds.

First off, the theatre was packed for the 900 show on a Sunday night. The only row that wasn't filled was the first one and it is too close to the screen. The ushers were shoehorning late arrivals in and shuffling a few around to fit groups of four or more. Very cool.

Enjoyed the multiple camera styles from news footage, CC video, and even some first person shooter angles. Thumbs down to having footage in the trailer that isn't in the movie. Unless the alien interrogation scene hit the cutting room floor, why is it in the trailer??

Lots of killshots and splatters on the camera. Don't know how they couldn't of found the guy using the cellphone a little sooner? I know, it's not my movie. And they ended the postscript with a damn elipses. Does this mean sequel? There was plenty of resolution at the end of the film for me.

This movie had plenty of content and texture, and hopefully the Halo movie never sees the light of day. Hopefully, the LEGO movie makes it to the big screen first.

i believe trailers are put together before the final cut of the movie is done, and judging by the fact that there are trailers for movies that aren't coming out for a whole year ("despicable me"), i would say that a trailer can pretty much be its own movie in its own right. have a feeling this will come out on DVD as an unrated director's cut with 20 more minutes and more blood and stuff.

i'd like them to have something like a "documentary" on the species itself, if more is learned about them or something. i do think there were intentions for a sequel as well. is it just me or did wikkus have the *strangest* accent in the world? i believe that's his real accent, too; the guy is from south africa. but the accent was all over the place. sometimes it sounded swedish, sometimes british, sometimes something...like that andy kaufman would have invented.

Just saw it and genuinely enjoyed it. W_Z mentioned that some of he messages were fairly obvious, but I guess they were somewhat unique for the sci fi genre. There were a couple things that bothered me. I felt that we needed more info on why a species so apparently advanced could be so unorganized and "pushed around". And I also wanted to know how the ship started without the fluid when it couldn't previously. I know these plot holes don't necessarily take away from the main message, but still a bit annoying.

from what i remember, the reason they were taken advantage of was because when they were discovered they were severely malnourished and were taken in at first, hospitably. i believe they relinquished their weapons too; or, they were taken from them when they were too weak to do anything about it.

it did? i must've missed that...i thought the fluid ran out originally and that's why the ship stopped or something like that. again, that first 20 minutes was extremely jarring...if there's a criticism i have it's that. very very messy. i have a feeling seeing it a second time would help though.

lipid, you absolutely lose all credibility with me when you think Halo would be anything more than a shitty B movie. The plot of every one of those video games was trite... and basically a rip off of every other scifi genre flick. It would be bad. Just because you put on a Spartan helmet and jump in a warthog does not a good movie make.

Please tell me where I said it would be a good movie? I'm sure it would be, at best, a marginal movie, but I want to see it nonetheless, because I'm a fan of the franchise and the more of it I can get, the better.

As for being a rip-off, whatever...it's clear you don't like the story of the game and you've made that clear numerous times...what I don't get is that while you say this is a rip off of every sci-fi genre flick, you seem to love Mass Effect's...it's really not that much better if you ask me...

I guess I understand. I just never understood the fascination with Halo other than it looks good. I did like Mass Effect, but it was a RPG, so I suppose you could appreciate the story more. There was so much back story with all the data that they gave you on each species and their motivations, histories, and proclivities. I mean you seriously got a Lord of the Rings type universe created for you in Mass Effect... like a real book. Halo I'd compare more to a comic.

i would rather see a movie of "half-life" than "halo", for some reason.

but games-to-movies have been full of so much fail, i am not too bummed about any of those projects being on hold. no offense, lipid.

Picked up the rental tonight.

Great movie. I didn't like the way the aliens were designed. I understand it in terms of the plot. But for some reason it kinda bugged me through the film. The moral battles through out the movie were great. The alien weaponry was really cool.

Another thing that kinda bothered me is it seemed like all the aliens were meatballs with the exception of one (& his son). I understand the majority of them were "workers" but it seems to me that "workers" who could space travel would be a little more sophisticated.

So many ways the sequel could go it will be interesting to see which direction the director takes it.

So you're saying the aliens want the Bears to reacquire Benson and Orton?

Just watched this tonight, loved it. Of the 3 movies I saw in the past week (this, Inglorious Bastards, Hangover) I thought this one was the best.

Can't wait for the sequel and the arrival of the alien rescue team 3 years into the future. They're gonna whup some serious ass.

I'm really surprised by all of the positive comments. I thought the first 45 mins was silly. The main character was very annoying until he got "juiced" for lack of a better word. The Aliens were pretty descent but they were a bit annoying too. It was interesting enough to want to watch the whole thing but I was disappointed I spent $16 on it.

I give it 1 1/2 stars.

I liked Gran Torino and the Wrestler from this past year.
