Phil Kosin dies
Posted by Ed Sherman 8/11/2009 on Chicago Business

Sad news.

Phil Kosin, the editor of Chicagoland Golf and the long-time host of the golf show on WSCR-AM 670, passed away last night. He had been suffering from cancer.

To those who knew him or read his magazine and listened to his show, they know he was truly a unique character. He always had an opinion, especially when it came to golf. And he never was shy about sharing them.

Agree or disagree, there was no denying that Mr. Kosin was passionate about not only golf, but golf in Chicago. You could feel it on the pages of his magazine and hear it on his show. He loved to promote courses and people and issues that supported the game in our area.

People in the golf business, and those who just simply played the game, knew they had an ally in Mr. Kosin. He will be missed.

Here's a statement from Illinois PGA executive director Michael Miller:

"The Illinois PGA is deeply saddened by the passing of Phil Kosin. For over two
decades Phil has been synonymous with golf in Illinois. There was no greater
supporter of the game and The PGA of America. Through his passion for the game
and his dedication to covering and reporting golf at both the local and national
levels, Phil earned a reputation as a very credible and respected voice within
the industry. His friendship and support will be greatly missed."

Wow. I listened to this show all the time on Saturday mornings. Sad, rip.

Nth'ing the condolences. I wasn't usually up early enough to listen to his show, but when I was, I could tell that he 100% loved what he did. God bless him and his family.
