actually really good.

Coaches seem to make the transition really well to the booth. I like Billick quite a bit as well.

Is he doing an NFL Network game? I'm at work...no cable or DTV.

it was crazy, he came out and the first thing he said was about the offensive formation and it's main purpose... probably simple, but I don't get that from most broadcasters...

He's on ESPN this year. I think it's Gruden... it certainly sounds like him. Now I need confirmation. But the back of my brain is telling me he replaced Kornheiser.

There's basically two types of analysts: those guys that make hard stuff sound easy, and those guys that make easy stuff sound easy. Obviously, the first kind are preferred.

I noticed that he's breaking down plays pretty darn well.

You are correct, sir. In my thorough examination, as Ron Jaworski might say, he'll make fans forget Mr. Tony, who seemed very disinterested when he was in the booth with Mike Tirico and I...

Cornholer was terrible. Now of they would just get rid of Jaws. I'm looking forward to listing to Gruden...but I would prefer that he coach the Bears!

I only watched maybe a quarter of the game but I was definitely
impressed. I know that as a coach he was well known as being
one of those guys that literally lived at the office and in the film
room. This completely shines through listening to him and watching
him break down plays. I found his analysis to be excellent and should
only get better as the season goes on. He was teaching me a few
things I didn't know about formations and plays. Should be a good
season for MNF this year.

If I can ask a dumb question...Why is Phil Simms the #1 analyst on CBS Sports' NFL coverage? :? Mac has ripped the former New York Giants' quarterback on practically every occasion, and quite frankly, he brings nothing to CBS' marquee game with Jim Nantz on the play-by-play.

Or Siragusa that makes anything sound like he's eating a ham sandwich

Guys, if I can ask another dumb question...Why is Tony Siragusa ALWAYS on the field instead of being in the NFL/FOX Sports' booth like his partners Kenny Albert & Daryl "Moose" Johnston are? :?

Hey Fellas don't forget that the team with the most points is generally in the best position to win the game.

Sorry to bump an old post, but Gruden did pretty good in the pre-season, but struggled a little last night.

When the Bills were on offense, he said that when Edwards was back to pass, Evans and Moss were on the same side, I think he thought Owens.

Then were the Pats were on offense, he was talking about a good block by Matt Light and 2 times he called him Todd Lyght, Jaws and Tirico were laughing when he said it.

I agree, Gruden is a lot better than I thought he would be. If he doesn't get back into coaching (doubtful) I'd have no problem listening to him for then next 20 years.

I have to be honest, most of the time I could not tell the difference in voices between him and jaws.

Jon Gruden is already the best Football analyst on TV, bar none. I could listed to him read the phone book. Very entertaining & informative & just the right amount of meatballedness.
Unfortunatly the worst analyst is in the booth with him.

I enjoyed Jaws and Chucky arguing whether the defense was in man or zone and what the QB would have thought it was. Could make for some good arguments down the road, and potentially some uncomfortable TV.

When Tony Cornholer was in the booth, Jaws seemed ok. Now that Gruden is in the booth he makes Jaws sound like an amateur. Chucky is very good & it seems like Jaws knows it & he is trying to hard to prove that he too is good...which he isn't.

i'm surprised by some of the opinions on jaws. To me he is clearly the best qb analyst out there. I like gruden as well. If tirico calls plays and doesnt try and give his obviously lackluster commentary this will be a great booth

i don't dislike jaws, i just think it's because tony's gone that jaws is the loudest one there because gruden is surprisingly low-toned, at least from what i heard.

here's another thing i'm shocked by...i actually think golic is a pretty good analyst too. greenie *sucks* but some of the things golic said were pretty good. i still wouldn't give them premiere games or anything.

The only thing I dislike about jaws is he does the "this guy is the greatest at..." thing. He's not the only announcer who does it, it just annoys the hell out of me because he does it every game...

Mike Greenberg is the worst Football PBP announce I have ever heard.

How many oldtimer WSCR listeners remember when Greeny was on in the mornings?
