You know, it almost pisses me off to see the Cubs play the Pirates well, if you know what I mean.

Len just said that Fukudome is hitting .349 in the 2nd half, his season average is up to .275

3 run jack by him right there.

Good to see, eh Darkie?

It sure is. It looks like I might have been wrong about Fukudome.
At the time, he was slipping in June, following the same trend from 2008.
But now, he's been hot since July 1. I'm very happy with it.

Me too. I just wish Lou would put him in a place in the lineup and leave him there.

54...but they also get about 9 first half games against Houston each year, before they go on their annual second half run.

I fully expect them to score 3 runs combined in their next two games.

Exactly. They could just kill them like the Sox did to Cleveland last week. Wait, what?

Well, at least they're guaranteed to pound the hapless A's this weekend.

Cleveland, pre Lee and Martinez trade, was better than the Pirates, Reds, Brewers, Astros and most likely the Cubs.

I don't think Cleveland - pre or post Lee and Martinez - was better than anyone except maybe the nationals.

Wells goes to 9 wins now on the year, Sam Fuld did a great job getting on base and scoring as he seems to do when given a chance and Fukadome continues to produce. Plus, although I have never been all that thrilled with the aquisition, Jeff Baker had another very good day. Derrek Lee had a huge day, especially for playing just half a game. But it's hard to get real excited about beating the Pirates. the get them 8 of the 48 games left too, which bodes well. But even if through some miracle they should make the playoffs, do you really feel confident they would succeed in a playoff series, against a good, winning team? I do not. If the Cardinals should win the Central, they have Carpenter and Wainwright to go against the opposing team, who are both capable of beating anyone. Of the Cubs starters, Harden (of late) looks good and Wells has been good most of his starts, but is not dominant. Then you look at the lineups and the Cardinals have better hitters now. I have to say, the redbirds would be a better representative this year, in a playoff series. That said, I would love to see the Cubs get hot and for guys like Zambrano and Lilly to come off the DL and return to top form and change the outlook. Back to this Pirate series....Its Zach Duke vs Tom Gorzellany today and hopefully Gorzellany will look more like the guy who dominated the Reds and less like the guy who was knocked out of the game, just 1 1/3 innings into the start vs the Rockies. Russ Ohlendorf faces Rich Harden in this series finale on Sunday and fun fact...they go into the game with identical 4.30 ERA's. Harden has been much better since the All-Star break, and against the Pirates that should hopefully continue.Ohlendorf has to be credited for compiling a 10-8 record for a team that is so far under .500 .

DLee with two stupid baserunning plays in the 1st inning.
First of all he should have been out on the Fox FC. He should have stopped in the basepath but wasn't paying attention to the location of the ball until it rolled right in front of him. They gave him the DUCKDODGE but he was tagged and/or was well out of the basepath.
And nice slide at home to kill what should have been a bigger inning. Looked like a 4 year old sliding into home. Has anyone else noticed how many awkward slides Lee seems to have this year? Even Len said something about keeping watch on Lee's spasms cause he seems to get them after bad slides... Why would a Pro have that many bad awkward slides that someone would notice a trend associated with them?
Other than that um, great day yesterday, DLee.
