As great as advertised. Absolutely compelling from start to finish. Extremely good use of color filters, well shot, makes it feel all the more allegoric. Up there with some of the best films of last year. I think it should have contended for Best Picture overall, but that rarely (if ever?) happens in Hollywood. No Hollywood studio would have produced this film. They would have wanted to make it more "family" like.

If you have HBO On Demand with Comcast, it's available till 10/28. I suggest anyone who likes good films should check it out.

:D :D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

What he said. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it was a pretty damn good movie.

Yeah I came away from the movie very impressed and surprised. I did not think it was going to be as "heavy" as it turned out to be.

Bump

Just saw this, and it was fantastic; the soundtrack, the plot, the casting, it was as close to a perfect movie as I have seen. But, it was depressing as shit.

I remember it being advertised as a fantasy-like film, but it was more realistic than advertised. I would recommend it to anyone.

in case anyone's interested:

Very good movie. Coming up in the 80's watching movies like Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story, Legend and so forth I was happy to see this which is kind of a throwback to thoe flicks but way darker and imo much better

different kind of movie than all of those, hernandez, to be fair. those were straight up fantasy films, this was more allegorical.

Easily the best movie the year it came out imo.

I can't wait to see what Del Toro does when paired with Jackson for The Hobbit.

I forgot he was doing that. I didn't know Peter Jackson was gonna be a part of it though. Del Torro's got a dark twisted Henson mind goin there so The Hobbit should be nothin short of great

Jackson is producing and Del Torro is directing. Its going to be a two part movie. And its gonna be awesome!
