WOW! :o I know Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein and Blink 182's Travis Barker were involved in quite a plane crash in September 2008, and I remember he & Nicole Richie had quite a breakup. TMZ.com is all over this devastating news, and "DJ AM" was supposed to work a show tonight in Las Vegas at the Rain Nightclub inside the PALMS in Las Vegas. His last public appearance was throwing out the first ball at a Phillies/Mets' game last Sunday at CitiField in New York. Needless to say, celebrities from Alyssa Milano to Ryan Seacrest are in disbelief that "DJ AM" has passed away.

We should have a "Flying Fuck" section for news like this.

There have been a lot of deaths that have caught a lot of people by surprise. The deaths of Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Natasha Richardson, "DJ AM" and Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy this summer have been big, big news. The deaths of Jackson & Kennedy in particular weren't just limited to the likes of "Entertainment Tonight", "The Insider", "Access Hollywood", "Extra", "TMZ" and "E! News"...It was the kind of big news that warranted coverage from the 24/7 news channels and pre-empting programming on the broadcast networks as well...

Dont post DJ AM in the same sentence as those other people that died.

News is news..."DJ AM" was one of the most popular deejays in the country, playing clubs here in Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles & Las Vegas and had celebrity connections.

Michael Jackson - I think it was more of a surprise he made it to 50. All of his surgeries, drugs, flaming hair, romps with kids - he lasted a lot longer than he should have.

Farrah Fawcett - how was this a surprise? She had been sick for quite some time and her illness was all over the news.

Ted Kennedy - same question as with Farrah.

Now that you explain it that way...I still have no idea, nor do I care who he was. Now go back to your room SHARK. You can play reporter later...after dinner. We're having meatloaf.

CHF, SHARK tends to use certain phrases without really understanding what they mean. When he says that these deaths have "caught a lot of people by surprise," he means that this list of people have died recently and have been reported upon in various news outlets. Similarly, he will say that he was "surprised to see [something happen] yesterday" which means that something happened yesterday and was covered by various news outlets. His analogies are also usually constructed in a very poor fashion. I find it best just to ignore these faults of his and embrace him for his ability to regurgitate well-known information and surround every nickname, brand name, or other colloquialism with a bunch of quotation marks.

Let me tell you something right now, ladies & gentlemen. I knew that Walter Cronkite, Sen. Ted Kennedy & Farrah Fawcett were all gravely ill. The passing of Michael Jackson caught everyone off guard, but it's how he died that has many crying foul and a certain Dr. Conrad Murray who will soon face manslaughter charges. Actress Natasha Richardson was injured badly in a skiing incident in Canada, and she was injured to a point that she wouldn't survive. As for "DJ AM", while he & Blink 182's Travis Barker were badly injured in a plane crash almost a year ago in South Carolina, there were many that didn't think either would survive. It's one thing when someone dies at an older age, but it's the fact that some of these people died young that surprised many.

SHARK, it is a Wikipedia thing. Check out en.wikipedia.com. When someone says something like "Many people think" or "most fans agree", an editor will ask for a citation. In your instance, you are saying that many people were surprised. I am asking you to show tangible evidence that many people were actually surprised, as opposed to your assumption that many people were actually surprised. You should be able to cite the surprise factor with links to articles from reputable news sources that confirm your opinion.

Now this is in jest on this message board because we do not require that level of accuracy in news reporting, so I do not really call for that. I mentioned it as a joke because on wikipedia the [citation needed] is added to almost anything -- even when a citation is impossible! It is quite a crazy land over there.

SHARK how can you say Ed McMahon's death was a surprise? He was a walking corpse.
