The Blockbuster on Roosevelt just east of County Farm is closing. DVDs without "cover art" (I think we used to call that the case) were $3.99. I saw previously viewed DVDs for $7.99 and I believe $13.99. Just FYI.

Even though I hear their commercials on The SCORE, Blockbuster seems to be closing a number of their stores lately in this area...There are 2 other Blockbusters, one at Irving Park, Damen & Lincoln and the other at Clark & Wilson, that have closed their doors for good...

I'm always shocked when I hear someone say they are going to the "video store" to rent a move.

With things like Netflix, on-demand cable, and the other internet options, I'm surprised Blockbuster is still around.

I used to work at this Blockbuster. It's been open for about 10 years, and it was always dead when I was there. It should have closed 9 and a half years ago.

I remember Red Box being around in 2004 at certain McDonald's restaurants. I think they parted ways eventually.

The Red Box is supposedly free if you know what the free codes are. It seems like the boxes are everywhere now. Unfortunately, I find the movie selection to be inferior to the library and the Internet. Also a lot of people don't know how to use the thing and they take forever.

According to Wikipedia, McDonald's sold it to Coinstar and it's making decent money. "As of April 2007, each kiosk averaged 49.1 rentals per day and US$37,457 a year in revenue." I bet it's probably twice that now.

My box is red only once a month. Except for that one time after you said 7-11 was out of the extra small sizes.

Colonel, I have heard some great things about Netflix. In one of the latest commercials I've seen, there are certain movies you can actually watch on your computer. I have DIRECTV, and while I've rarely ordered a PPV movie or sporting event in the years I've had satellite, it's as simple as using your remote to place a PPV order.

About 1/3 you can watch instantly now for no extra charge. Pretty cool feature. Also they carry everything , Old Tv, New TV and a decent foreign section. Even a section for Frank and his ilk.

Chas, I was recently in a Best Buy and a Borders' Bookstore. I couldn't believe the number of current & classic TV shows you can now buy on DVD. Buy, not rent!

I buy the stuff I really want to , Dr Who, STNG,BSG,ANGEL.
I use Netflix to catch up and fill in . That is what I did with Rescue me and will be doing with Burn notice. I hate jumping into a seris 2-3 seasons in.
