I want all of us Bears fans to temper our enthusiasm or disgust regarding the outcome of the Sunday night game. I for one am holding my breath and hoping the Bears D and offense "get it right" and get a win in Cheese Country.

Bears 28
Packers 21

I'm eagerly anticipating the post-game show with Doug and OB.

:P

Who cares what happens? We've got Jay Cutler. We have improved our chances to make the playoffs over the next 3 years.

Very true BR, but I'm fearing the "Cutler is garbage, why did we trade Orton..." or "Superbowl!"

I was being sarcastic.

I have a feeling that will be the common theme if we lose. Play on the field this year doesn't matter as much as projected odds of future success. I still can't believe that there are people making a case that missing the playoffs this year doesn't matter because in future years we have a better chance to win it all.

I'm excited to see Jay Cutler win us games now. Screw next year.

Unfortunately though,
Packers 30
Bears 21

Um, No. I bet 90% of the time Cutler will not be the reason the Bears lose. This team is better with Cutler whether they make the playoffs or not now and for the future.

Spaulding, I hope I'm wrong as well, and right now, that's my final score as well. What really bothers me about this first game at Lambeau Field is the lack of depth in the Bears' secondary and I'm not so sure the Bears' front seven will put Aaron Rodgers on his back much at all on Opening Night when it really counts. Besides, if recent history means anything, the season premiere of NBC's "Sunday Night Football" for our Bears will be a losing one.

Weren't we the Sunday Night last year against Indy when we beat them at their new building?

You are correct, and if I remember, Dan, Peyton Manning did NOT take a single snap for the Colts in the preseason a year ago. Plus, it definitely help that Matt Forte had a long TD run in the Bears' unlikely road win last year at Lucas Oil Stadium on Opening Night. Recent history doesn't look too good though.

I'm beginning to believe that I speak a different language than you. You rarely get my point.

The team will be better if they perform better than last year. If they go 6-10 with Cutler throwing for 400 yards a game this team won't be better or more enjoyable to watch.

If they miss the playoffs this year then it won't be a very good season. They were about as close as you could have been to a playoff team last year. They blew it. Yes, this includes QB play.

There is no gaurantee that this team will be better now or in the future than last years team. It's almost guaranteed the QB play will be better.

My problem is that for you, who seemingly think Cutler is a sure thing to be a great player, is that you set the bar so low. Your only criteria for an improved team is that we have Jay Cutler. That is the exact thing that I can't buy in to. Maybe it's because last year I spent a good amount of time following the Saints because of my fandom of Drew Brees. He had one of the best seasons ever for a QB and the team whiffed on the playoffs.

Football is a team game and it has to be judged on how the whole team performs. It is no more enjoyable watching a team miss the playoffs with a QB struggling to get over 200 yards a game or watching a team miss the playoffs with a QB approaching 350 yards a game.

That's my problem with the theory that the team is better simply because we have Cutler. That isn't true unless it results in greater performance on the field by the whole team.

Thanks for the research. I'm grasping at straws to be optimistic about this game especially since I'm heading up to Lambeau for it.

if the bears go 0-16, the cutler trade is still awesome.

Then you should not be bringing Cutler into these discussions. If the defense goes out and sucks goat balls and the Bears lose they would lose whether Cutler or the mighty Kyle Orton were quaterbacking. Would it be better if they lost these games with Orton rather than Cutler? Does Cutler who can actually throw the ball down the field with some accuracy put them in a better position to score points? What if Cutler can put up 30 points a game? Do you think Orton is even capable of that?

You are right I rarely understand you. I don't know why you keep hammering this topic. I don't know if Cutler will take this team on his back but they are much improved offensively now and for the future. When you have the chance to get a possible franchise qb you take it. I'm gonna defend Cutler til he gives me a reason not to.

Let's just say that the winner shall be a certain team, from a certain Mid-western town, that starts with a "C", ends with an "O", and in the middle is "HICAG"

It is simply a response to those who believe the team is improved no matter what. Improvement would be making the playoffs this year.

Kyle Orton is irrelevant. This is a team discussion. In my opinion, this team is not improved from last year if they don't make the playoffs. It would be no better or worse if Orton was the QB and they missed the playoffs. Wins and losses matter. I just can't understand how so many can be excited about having a franchise QB but aren't even willing to set the bar of a slight improvement from last year.

No, you are going to set the bar so low that him putting on the jersey on Sunday is all that is needed for a successful season.

Who would have guessed that saying that failure to make the playoffs for a team that went 9-7 would be such a crazy idea? I think that is why I keep on bringing it up. I find it irrational to be so excited about an upgrade in talent but that higher expectations didn't accompany that.

What I said wasn't even an attack on Cutler. Please read again and see I am only talking about the team making or missing the playoffs. I have not said one negative thing about Cutler in this whole post so you shouldn't feel the need to "defend Cutler".
