Upon further review, it looks like Patrick Mannely called the fake punt trying to catch the Packers with 12 Men on the field. Stupid.

the guy sits on the bench half asleep. It is the COACHING STAFF that allows the center to make a call!

I don't care if Green bay had 15 guys on the field. Unless he's 100% sure the guy will be on the field at the snap, you just can't make that call. Even with the penalty, still would have been 4th down anyway.

Are you so sure that Mannelly called that play? From listening to sucky Smith, he may have "approved" the call. As he said, everything goes through him.

And even if Mannelly did call the play, what kind of dumbass coach lets a fuckin' long snapper possibly decides a team fate?

Once again, Lovie was the Bears second choice for head coach. He is not cut out to be a head coach. Only the Bears would make this guy the highest paid head coach in the NFL.

Because the Bears have a reputation for throwing money around.

Mike Singletary or Ron Rivera should be our head coach not Lovie Unmotivated Smith.

I have the 49'rs as the surprise team in the NFC this year, winning at least 9 games & finishing in 2nd place in the NFC West. SF is a well coached team. Bernsey is gonna eat crow for bashing the Niners & Singletary for the physical hard hitting training camp they run.

Of course he is going to say he approved the play, I would think worse of him if he threw his player to the wolves on that call.

This was likely by design, and it makes sense. If Mannely is told there are 12 men on the field, it makes sense to snap it to Wolfe. If Wolfe breaks one, you can decline the penalty and keep the ball. If he doesn't get the 1st, oh well... you re-punt with better field position.

Mannely still deserves the blame, but I am guessing he wasn't the one taking the time to count the players. More than likely someone from the sidelines relayed that call in, and he acted on it. And obviously, he acted on it late by a few seconds.

Smart play if it works, but REALLY dumb if it doesn't. Unfortunately, it didn't.

A fake punt is one thing, but I blame Garrett Wolfe as much as I do Patrick Mannelly. Garrett should've known where the first down marker was, and Lovie's throwing of the red flag made a bad situation worse.
