A) Go with the "franchise QB" you just traded 2 first-rounders for in the offseason.

B) Go with the first head coach to get you into a Super Bowl in the last couple of decades.

To be honest, I simply do not see both men lasting the duration of this season. One of them will be gone, and I highly doubt it will be Cutler. Kind of a raw deal for Lovie, if you ask me.

You feeling okay this morning? Or are you practicing to make a secret-meatball call to B&B around 1:30 to get things started?

Did you just say that Lovie is going to be fired in season or that Cutler is going to be traded?

Neither will happen.

After the season, Lovie's time may be up here but it won't be during the season.

Well, here's what I have to deal with every single football season:

I'm not a Bear's fan, but it's the only team where I can watch every game for free. To be honest, this team is incredibly enjoyable to watch because of the fan reactions and numbskullery that takes place each game... basically must-see television.

So, in essence, I just like to stir the pot.

IF the Bears roll out a 6-10, Lovie is a goner.

Chris Zorich + Frank Stallone = MATCH

(at least on this board)

What are you suggesting? Are you saying Angelo has to move Cutler or fire Smith this season?

They aren't trading Cutler, and the team would have to go 4-12 for Smith to be even near the hot seat, but if the season goes down the tubes because of injuries, he'll survive.

No I'm not suggesting they move Cutler. What I am saying is that Lovie is obviously a goner this season, which I think is pretty unfair to him.

IMO Angelo himself should be on the hot seat after having visual confirmation that we don't have a viable receiving corps (although, admittedly, that is a good defense that we went up against last night). Turner should've been gone after last year. Not sure if Jerry and Lovie are goin' anywhere until after one more season, though, now that they have a built-in excuse because of the injuries

Why? Any time you miss the playoffs three years in a row you should have your job on the line.

In this league if a coach gets three years he's lucky.

What would be fair to Lovie?

Let me ask this, then: if Orton was still in Chicago, and the same game last night occurred, would Lovie still be in the hotseat?

the panic over cutler is hillarious. yes he had an awful embarassing game but already there is talk of him being a bust? his receivers are about as much to blame for most of those picks. they didnt finish their routes and they didnt run them properly. its hard to throw a complete pass when your idiot receivers dont know what theyre doing

It wouldn't matter. In fact, last nights game has nothing to do with it.

3 years of no playoffs is trouble for any coach and Lovie Smith is no exception.

So does Lovie last the entire season, or is there a loss number that will be the point of no return?

Well. If the Bears go 0-16 then he won't last the season. That isn't going to happen though.

If the Bears finish 5-11 or 6-10 he'll still finish out the season. If it's 3 wins or less he may be gone beforehand. It wouldn't really matter though and if anything it would just be a favor to Smith to end the suffering.

Let's be honest, though: Minnesota and Green Bay both looked pretty solid yesterday (moreso Minnesota) so I would imagine Lovie has a good chance to be gone after loss 7. If yesterday is any indication, Minnesota and GB look like minimum 9-win teams.

Minnesota looked like shit yesterday. Don't let the final score fool you. They couldn't pass at all, and the running game was contained until the 4th quarter.

If you say GB looked solid, then so did the Bears. The Bears lost by a couple of points and were leading with a few minutes left.

Had it not been for the 10 gift points the Bears gave GB, they would have won. It was a divisional game, on the road, 1st game of the season... and they hung around. Again, if GB was solid, so were the Bears.

The difference is that Green Bay didn't turn the ball over. With the exception of the safety, Green Bay simply didn't execute... and still scored over 20 points. The Bears didn't "give" them anything.

Smith's an ass and has no business being an NFL head coach. You could can his ass right now and I would be happy as hell.

I would add the caveat of "who do we get instead"?

And, no, 'anyone is better' is incorrect.

Shannahan? Cowher? YES. Holmgren? Maybe. Someone else? No.
