According to Andy Martino of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pedro Martinez's deal with the Phillies is worth around $1 million. Pedro can also earn around $1.5 million in performance-based incentives.

$1M guaranteed with another $1.5M in incentives? This tells me it was never about the money, Petey just didn't want to pitch. I hope he has the fire back because he is one of the greatest pithers the game has ever seen.

I have a feeling that at this point Pedro just wants to win, and had it not been a team the caliber of the Phils, he would not have signed for so little.

He'll get lit up like Mike North's christmas tree with the speed at which he is supposedly throwing.

They put him on the DL so he could get a couple minor league rehab starts in without counting against the 25-man roster. Not a big deal.

Ah, I thought I heard something about a mild shoulder/elbow strain. Probably along the same lines at David Patton's groin

Pedro is now 5-0 with a 2.87 ERA. He pitched a great game last night and was throwing in the low 90's in the later innings. He also threw his most pitches in a game in over 10 years (130). The way he's been throwing it looks like Pedro may have a year or two left after all. That is unless Charlie Manual burns him out this season.
