Only the Bears could committ back to back face masks, and then blow coverage the next play. Thank god for the NFL package, so I can watch real teams.

:roll: Hey mr. redass, what "real teams" are you watching this afternoon? Miami? Oakland? Denver? Or is it Pittsburg, the Pittsburg the Bears beat last week?

Poor coaching, why run Wolfe on 3rd and 1? They should have gotten a td after the Briggs pick, that may cost them the game. Waste of great field position.

2 fumbles, and a pick by Cutler. You really can't have that from your "franchise qb".

That was a false start on Williams on the TD pass; the stripes missed it.

Bear wide receivers were the star today, they came out and made every catch. Hester and Bennett made some catches on some very tough throws

But... Devin Hester is too stupid to run routes, or catch the ball with his hands, or take a hit. :scratch:

It's almost like he's a perfectly capable NFL WR, and you didn't have to use a huge percentage of cap space or draft picks to get him. He was right there.

Right. The Bears are through the first tough stretch of the schedule 2-1. Now you get to feast on the delicious nummy nums:

Lions
Bye
@Falcons
@Bengals
Browns
Cardinals
@49ers

A couple games in there are tougher than others (Atlanta), but you really should go 5-1 or 4-2 in that stretch. 4-2 takes you to 6-3 with seven to play:

Eagles
@Vikings
Rams
Packers
@Ravens
Vikings
@Lions

Splitting the home and away gets you to 10-6. Maybe they lose to the Eagles but beat the Lions, but that's still 10-6. And frankly, I'm not that worried about the Vikings.

Why does he need to be? #2 WRs have a lot of value too. That's pretty much what Berrian was, and there was much gnashing of teeth when he left. Now, you have Bernard Berrian for a fraction of the cost.

I find it hard to believe that there are 64 WRs better than Hester. There's a lot of garbage in the NFL.

Maybe true. Bears WRs: position of strength!

In fairness, Johnny Knox has a lot to learn still about route running. But I feel pretty good about these WRs. I think another second of protection would go a long way... more than a talent upgrade at WR (not that a talent upgrade wouldn't help, just that the line upgrade would help more).

Having a QB like Cutler makes everything easier. I like all of the Bears receivers but I feel that it would be a waste of a trade not to get a guy like Cutler a true #1. Right, I think we mostly agree. I just think that, if you could only make one switch, a great LT (or even guard) would help more than the #1 WR. Neither would hurt, of course.

In the last 8 games (going back to last year) Hester has 33 receptions for 477 yards. And in his statistically worst game in that stretch (2 catches for 12 yards against GB) I believe he drew two pass interference penalties totaling something like 60 yards in penalties. I think Hester has become a solid #2 guy.

The Bear wide recevers have performed very well the last two weeks, the Bears are definitely getting more bang for their buck from the receivers as compared to the offensive line.

Omayele (sp?) is a joke. I can't believe that Beekman hasn't replaced him yet.

Faith Hill has transitioned nicely into MILFhood.

The Bears could easily go 2-4 in those first 6. Only easy games are the Browns and Lions.

His contract:
Quote:
7/27/2008: Signed a four-year, $40.975 million contract extension through 2013.
The deal contains $15 million guaranteed, including a $5 million signing bonus and $18.939 million in performance-based escalators. $250,000 workout bonuses are available in each year.
2009: $550,000 (+ $5 million roster bonus),
2010: $750,000 (+ $5 million roster bonus),
2011: $1.5835 million,
2012: $1.646 million,
2013: $1,857,523 (+ $10 million "deescalating" roster bonus),
2014: Free Agent. Cap charge: $6,885,883 (2009).

They just played the supposed best FA WR from this Summer, Houshmandzadeh. He got

Quote:
five-year, $40 million contract. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed. 2009-2013: Under Contract, 2014: Free Agent. Cap charge: $5.9 million (2009).

Works out similarly, but without the age-related future cap hit. Those numbers on a 32 (I think) year old WR should, realistically speaking, be prorated to expect a cap hit around year three to compensate for the expected rise in the risk of getting cut, which is substantial at that age. That risk is lower for a guy in his mid-20s, even for similar levels of production. The cap hit from cutting- not from playing- is what gets a team a lot of the time.

For reference, the contract of Greg Jennings who was drafted the same round and year as Hester. Last seen running into the endzone in week 1, defeating the beloved..
Quote:
6/23/2009: Signed a four-year, $26.885 million contract. The cap-friendly deal (after 2009) contains $16.25 million guaranteed, including an $11.25 million signing bonus and Jennings' first-year base salary. Another $3 million is available through incentives, including $25,000 per game played, $25,000 each season if he plays in 12 games and the Packers make the playoffs, and escalators maxing out at $700,000 in 2010, $1 million in 2011, and $1.25 million in 2012 based on playing time and team performance. $300,000 offseason workout bonuses are available 2010-2012.
2009: $5 million,
2010: $1.85 million,
2011: $2.7 million,
2012: $3.885 million,
2013: Free Agent.
Cap charges: $8.154 million (2009), $5.004 million (2010), $5.854 million (2011), $7.039 million (2012).

The only receiver drafted in the first round that year was Santonio Holmes, but he's still on rookie contract.

Didn't see the Berrian comparison before. Berrian makes

Quote:
Signed a six-year, $43.4 million contract. The deal contains $16 million guaranteed, including a $5 million signing bonus and a first-year roster bonus of $8 million.
2009: $2.395 million (+ $3 million roster bonus),

2011: $3.9 million,
2012: $6.9 million,
2013: $7.9 million,
2014: Free Agent

1/1 is a fraction though, you're correct :D

Let's put this in perspective,the Bears best friend the last 2 weeks have been their opponents kickers.The Bengals beat the Steelers at home.So after 3 games they just average.
