Once upon a time, the Oakland Raiders had a "Committment to Excellence". These days, the Raiders are one of the NFL's annual punching bags, and since trading in the #12 Raider silver & black uniform for a CBS Sports' blazer sitting alongside Kevin Harlan and this year Ian Eagle on the network's coverage of the AFC, Rich Gannon has made no secret of his criticism of his former team. Needless to say, his former team is furious with CBS and their decision to assign Rich & Ian last Sunday's regional broadcast of the Raiders' home game vs. the Denver Broncos at the Oakland Coliseum.

According to awfulannouncing.com, Raiders' executive John Herrera is furious with Gannon's criticism of his former team since he retired. Gannon has been quoted in several interviews stating that the Raiders should "blow up the building and start over". Herrera and the Raiders took exception to Rich's remarks. "We think in a post 9/11 world, that's not a proper thing to say," Herrera said. "It's uncalled for. He seems to be a guy who can't get over the fact that he played the worst Super Bowl game in the history of the game and he wants to blame everybody but himself." Gannon was actually the Raiders' starting QB when they went to the Super Bowl, only to lose in 2002 to another former Raider, head coach Jon Gruden and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers down in San Diego.

This is also not the first time the Raiders have tried unsuccessfully to remove Gannon from an NFL/CBS broadcast. The Raiders tried to get CBS to remove Gannon from a November home game vs. another longtime Raider rival, the Kansas City Chiefs. It's unclear yet if Gannon & Eagle will be behind the mike this Sunday when the hapless Raiders head to Houston to face the Texans at Reliant Stadium. Needless to say, Rich won't be afraid to speak his mind...

I don't know if Sean McManus and CBS Sports had it planned this way, but Rich Gannon won't be calling the Raiders/Texans' game Sunday in Houston on a regional level. Ian Eagle & Rich Gannon have been assigned to call the game in Cleveland. Carson Palmer & the Bengals visit the hapless, winless Browns, who will start Derek Anderson in place of Brady Quinn, says the Kevin James-looking Eric Mangini. Gus Johnson & Steve Tasker have been assigned to call the Raiders' game in Houston vs. the Texans on CBS. As if any of this matters!
