Remember Connor McKnight? Last July, he won the "PepsiMax SCORE Search" contest with much fanfare during a live broadcast that aired at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park on 670 The SCORE & 670thescore.com. He was supposed to start in September, but if you're wondering why he hasn't been on all that much since the end of White Sox season, you're not alone.

It's been at least 50 days, and Connor has been on sparingly since winning the "SCORE Search" last summer. Connor was one of the on-course reporters during the CBS Radio-owned sports talker's live coverage of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon about 2 weeks ago. He was also at the Blackhawks' Red Carpet home opener, and has done "Scoreboard Updates" on a limited basis late nights with Les Grobstein since Sox baseball came to an end. It's been a bit of a letdown.

Connor has started a blog for the station's Web site, and posted his first entry late this afternoon. He covered a lot of ground in his first blog, and you can check out Connor's first blog here:

It’s been 50 days since I started working for The Score. Just toady Mitch Rosen, the program director, asked me to start a blog about just what it is I do on a daily basis. Not wanting to make it look like I do nothing, I said, “sure.”

I’ll try and boil down the last fifty days into some highlights. Some are funny, some are boring and all are pretty awesome when you consider that just fifty-one days ago, I was on my couch wishing I had a job like this.

Bad Baseball:
I spent the first three weeks or so watching bad baseball. By now, Chicagoans have come to accept that no mater who you root for, Sox or Cubs, this summer was ugly. I saw close to fifteen games on the north side—where the disappointment was tangible—and about twenty games on the south side—where the disappointment had already been received like a dinner guest.
Being in both clubhouses for the first time was fairly cool. A few notes on those in case you haven’t been: The Sox’ clubhouse is nice. The Cubs’ is not. Notes over.
So, while I was watching all this baseball, my responsibility was to go down to the clubhouse after the game and interview players. It only took me a week and a half to get over the nerves to ask Milton Bradley a question and then a few days after that I finally asked one. Well, not really… but close.

The Olympics:
When Mitch calls you answer. Even at 7:30 in the morning… especially at 7:30 in the morning.
This happened a week or so ago. The call came in at 7:30 am. I wasn’t even close to awake. I think I walked over to my phone the first time thinking it was the alarm and just shut it off. Finally, I picked up the phone (four calls later). Mitch needed me to drive over to the Shertaon Hotel to roll on (that’s what guys in the biz call record) a press event being held by Mayor Daley and the 2016 Olympic bid. There were there on a Tuesday morning to talk about losing the bid.

A few details. I needed to be there by 8. I could not miss the main speaker. I am 45 minutes by El from the Sheraton.

I decided to take the car and risk Lakeshore Drive. Frankly, it’s a miracle no one was killed.

The Mighty Blackhawks:
They’ve taken up most of my time lately. I covered all of training camp and have only missed one home game. It was the 6-5 comeback win against Calgary. Yes, I’m upset.
It’s real easy to see the change happening around that team from a media perspective. Middle of the week, no games it’s mostly just the beat reporters from newspapers. Day before or after games—everyone who can wrangle a credential is there jockeying for microphone position while talking to Cristobal Huet. My hope, and the Blackhawk’s I’m sure, is that by the middle of the season, they’ll be the sports story in Chicago.

It’s been a blast so far. Next blog—Chicago Marathon.

Helluva way to make a first Impression. One line in, and he's already calling the boss just toady

At this stage, I wonder why The SCORE even held this contest if they weren't going to fully utilize Connor by now...It was such a big deal that The SCORE's former big voice guy & Dan Patrick were in the promos when the contest was first announced.

He's collecting a paycheck whether he sits home, or is doing updates everyday. You've been going on about this for a couple weeks now. Why do you care so much about something that has zero effect on you?

With all due respect to Connor, why did The SCORE even have a contest if he wasn't going to be on? :? That's my big stink with what's NOT going on...If I even took part in a contest like this, I'd try my best to be on the air as often as possible, regardless who's calling the shots. Maybe I'm making more out of this than I should, but Connor was supposed to start in September since winning the "SCORE Search". If I were calling the shots instead of Drew Hayes at 670 AM, Connor would be getting steady work, especially at night doing updates during Laurence Holmes' nighttime and/or Les Grobstein's latenight show, plus give David Schuster an occasional breather at the arena or stadium reporting on the games around town.

Lasy asshole.

And why would you answer the call "especially" at 7:30 in the morning? Would it have been more acceptable to ignore his boss later in the day?

Connor was on tonight. While he wasn't doing updates tonight, he did give David Schuster a breather working tonight's Blackhawks/Canucks' game at United Center. Unfortunately, the Canucks were 3-2 winners.

It still would have been nice if the CSFMB's Chip Egan would have won....

Hey Shark, is Connor McKnight your kid? This is bordering on soccer mommish stuff now. Maybe you should call in and ask?

Shark: "Hello, this is SHARK, frequent CSFMB and Larz Board contributor. May I speak to former ESPN employee and current SCORE program director Mitch Rosen, who for contractual reasons, insists on giving air time to Laurence Holmes, previously of the Hampton & Holmes Show, whose time slot is now being used to broadcast "The Danny Mac Show," which, interestingly enough, also features former Sportingnews Radio's own Matt "Meatpants" Spiegel as Mac's partner.

Let the record show SHARK isn't married or even has kids for that matter. SHARK is convinced that Drew Hayes, not Program Director Mitch Rosen, is REALLY calling the shots at NBC Tower, home of 670 The SCORE. The idea behind the Connor McKnight thread had to do with his lack of airtime since the end of White Sox season and the fact he won a contest that doesn't seem like it's paying off since he officially signed on in September.
