He is. Im a cub fan but Ill credit the Cardinal broadcaster. He has a good voice, almost never stumbles (a la Chip Caray), and is that rare broadcaster that can do two sports well. He's young enough to not sound dated, while he doesnt force his hipness on you like many other broadcasters do.

In an era when Ed Farmer is thrust into play by play, Buck sticks out even more as a true professional. So does Pat Hughes. I dont know why any ex player should be doing play by play.

But Buck is good. For all the people who righteously give Hughes credit for doing a "one-man booth" babysitting Santo, you have to the same with Joe for babysitting MaCarver.

He is the best play by play guy in sports.

His talk show on HBO is pretty awful.

Joe Buck is a steady broadcasting voice, but far too self-important and self-aggrandizing for me to tolerate.

Next to Joe Buck, Troy Aikman is likable.

I hate to admit this, but I don't even think Joe Buck is the best baseball announcer on the fox network.

My pick would be (gasp) Thom Brennamen (sp?). I think he is awful on football telecasts, but he does a decent play by play on baseball. Not bad for a network guy.

+1.

They would cut into Dodger games a bunch on MLB network this season and it was great getting to hear a true legend.

The most amazing thing about Vin is that he works alone, and you never miss the color guy. I don't think there's a broadcaster alive today that could work solo and be any good.

I prefer Bernstein's impression. I again suggest a brief regular installment of it ... piss on Terry's thought of the day, I'll take Vin's thought instead.

Vin still does the west coast road games, he just barely travels east of the rockies I think.

Vin Scully does something that NOBODY does in all of team sports and that's working alone in the Dodgers' TV booth on FSN's Prime Ticket, only for home games and road games West of the Mississippi River now. He's hinting retirement himself after next year, and if you get the chance, get the "MLB Extra Innings" package to hear an icon at work and stay up late to hear his storytelling approach to the game. He's an American sports institution.

How about "Vin" reviews new music releases every Tuesday? I think that has potential, especially with rap and metal releases. "The latest release from 3 Inches Of Blood drops today."

I don't think Vin even knows who they are or even rap acts for that matter...

I'm a Sox fan, but I think Kasper and Brenley are great.

IMO

Buck = Too Yankee/Red Sox ass lickey

I also think he's a corporate shill and tries to make a big deal out of even the most unexciting moments in a game. One of the references I always read about him is the head exploding reaction to the Randy Moss "mooning" in Green Bay. if you heard just the audio you would have thought Randy Moss actually pulled down his pants and shoved a 17 year and 364 day old girl's face in it. People say his reaction was just to please the suits and "morals" viewers and I have to agree. Also he is paired with possibly worst color guys on tv, Tim McCarver. That guy makes Joe Morgan look like a Hall of Fame broadcaster.

For baseball, I just think Brennamen is a better listen. His pairing with Mark Grace is probably also the best national TV baseball duo today. He is awful on football, I will admit that, but I think he is better talent for baseball.

Ok. I see. I thought the reaction to his moss reaction was a little much. Even if he was wrong...people act like he killed someone.

They overreacted to the overreaction.

I can see the Sawx Yank thing it just doesnt really bother me.

Moint makes an excellent point about Hawk. Even if you don t like him, he's a person, not a robot, which is good.

I give him points for working with a thing like MaCarver. Thats not his problem.

I do not like Joe Buck as an announcer. It just seems like he is a company man and a schill and the ultimate member of the lucky sperm club. I do not care for the way he calls a game or the way he comes off as self important quite often. My biggest criticism is the way he undersells the moment I never get a sense of importance while listening to a Joe Buck telecast. Without exaggeration I would rather listen to Dick Stockton call a game and he has been dead for a decade.
