Sounds like CSFMB guy wants some attention, because what I heard Mac say was he can understand it.
I can too.
I think most people would respond quite different, if asked this question.

You left HS and went right to the minors, you are 24, have had a cup of coffee in the majors and you might be able to make the major league team year if you can add just a few mph to your fastball. Married, 1st kid on the way, making $24,000 a year or make $480,000 a year? Would you take the pills or injections? I think many many people would opt for the roid.

Way to indict most of the board here, you and I included, Darkside.

You could easily say the same thing about those who smoke pot and booze to excess on occasion.

Holy crap. Best post in the thread. I............agree.

6 weeks of chemotherapy is worse for you than a 6 week cycle of steroids...

btw: i don't think you can see the roid rage unless the HD is a 57".

can one smoke pot in excess? you'd just fall asleep...

Also: if you're so sure, Mac, why not ask all the NFL players you have on? I suppose this is hypothetical, since you don't book interviews. Why not ask them "you're a fantastic athlete, unbelievably fast, huge, I gotta ask: when's the last time you cycled on? Because I was sitting at Mackieland, drinking a cold draught beer from my tap, smoking some Allen Brothers steaks on my Big Green Egg, and I said to myself, 'this guy is a juicer, no doubt about it. They all are.' So how long has it been, buddy?"

On top of that spanky, take a few hits of pot or a few beers and then drive. How many of us have done that?

I have. Not proud of it, but I've danced with that devil. I bet I'm not the only one here.

That is far more dangerous than doing steriods once or for a year straight. Can you drive the same after taking steriods as you can after having 3 or 4 beers?

Beers - yes. Pot - never. I think the analogy was good without the driving part, but whatever. Excessive alocohol or smoking pot ain't good for you.

Mac likes to chide himself after interviews for not "going harder at the interviewee" to paint it like he's a tough interviewer. But it seems its the apology is the rule, not the exception.

He backed down against Benson a few years back.

Conversely, Bernstein was relentless with Jaramillo about Bradley last week.

Looking at the people indicted so far, I'd say 'yes'.

Looking at it from that angle, I can understand your point.

Right, I'm just saying. Plenty of us here partake in at least one of those acts (booze and/or pot, not driving while doing so). Most on a fairly regular basis. Its not a secret here at all. So, if somebody is going to get all high and mighty about players jeopardizing thier family's future by doing steriods, they need to look in the mirror.

I'm 2 comparing drugs that adversely affect your health. Legal or nor, pot, alcohol, HGH, etc all have negative effects on the body. Also, the debate was for an athelte who uses steriods just for a little while to make a carreer last longer. For the most part, we use alcohol or pot a lot more frequently than that.

Somebody also, jokingly, brough up the Baconater, and thats a great comparison as well.

Frank, I wasn't getting high and mighty by any means. I know when I drink or whatever else that my family isn't benefiting. But the whole "for my family" angle of athletes' steroid use just bothers me.

Did Barry Bonds begin using the cream and clear for his family? Hell no! Read Book of Shadows--he and many others were on an ego trip and used 'roids/hgh for the notoriety and to get more money for bigger toys and to pay off mistresses, etc. NOT for their families. That's the only angle that really bothers me.

Comparing Steroids to pot in terms of what it does to your body...is like saying a gunshot and a shove are basically the same cuz they both negatively affect your body.

I know you weren't. I'm just saying that we are very quick to point the finger and damn an athelete who comes out and says, "I used for a season or 2." It sucks, and its not right, and I don't like it either. But if we're going to bring long term health and family effects into the debate, what is worse? A ballplayer who uses HGH or something like it for 12 months, or the guy who has 6, 8 beers every Friday night for 10, 15, 20 years straight?

I'm not gonna do the long drawn-out thing here but:

Oh well that proves your arguement.

If one guy cycles for 10 years and one guy smokes pot for 10 years.

The roided up one will be way worse off.

I was saying that smoking pot negatively affects your body in more ways than a "shove".

Any type of smoke in your lungs = not good. Unless you don't value your lungs.

It is not like most of thse guys are choosing between being a clean neurosurgeon or a PED using athelete. Given the choice of being the guy who makes the baconator for minimum wage or using roids and signing a huge contract to play a game, I can see why it is done. It is easy to say you would never do it, because for most of us it wasnt an option.
Just because you dont agree with it doesn't mean Mac did it for shock value.

Interestingly enough, Lyle Alzado did not die of a tumor associated with steroid use.

He admitted he used steroids and he died but everyone who has ever used steroids will eventually die.
