Just rumors I guess, but I heard he's still under contract and has been asked to do certain shows... but has kindly declined.

Yeah, I figured someone would realize that. Everything that came up after I searched Browns Chicken related to that sad event. It was the closest pic without showing artist's rendering of the trial and other stuff like that. Definitely a sad day in the Chicago area. :(

Out of sight and out of mind......unless he has some gig in the works, he may as well get the bugle out for Opening Day in Mesa.

Murph should replace Ron Santo on Cubs radio. I'm 75% serious. Both are popular with old people. At this point in Santo's senility, Murph probably remembers more about the '69 Cubs than Ronnie does. As for annoying voices, it's a push. Murph can bring the same sort of exasperated "AW GEEZ COME ON" meatball bleacher fan-ness to the broadcast that Ron does, but also manage to complete a sentence or two. I don't believe that you need to be a former player to do color commentary (the White Sox seem to believe you need to be a former player to do play-by-play), as Murph understands baseball enough (indeed, that's about all he understands, certainly not football, basketball, or office politics) to provide adequate insight. It's not like Ron's insight is any better. Maybe he can have John Dewan supply him with helpful stats to pass along, too. I think this could be perfect. He'd be in a job where he only has to talk about the Chicago Cubs, and Sox fans won't have to listen to him (because everyone knows Sox fans would never listen to a Cubs broadcast). Tom Ricketts's ownership would be enough of a tabula rasa to disregard most of the "Andy the Clown bonk-bonk-wheeew" and "heeeey F-A-I-ellllllll" stuff.

It's better than Dave Otto. Who gives a shit about Dave Otto? He's just "a guy" in the journeyman athlete sense, the way Todd Hollandsworth is "a guy" or Jim Miller is "a guy," and yet they're considered spokespeople for their teams. Murph is "a guy" in the Everyman way. Pat Hughes and a middle-aged bleacher bum. It'd be something different, that's for sure.

Hi CH,
As an old guy,I can see your reasoning with Murph. I'm just bothered about Murph's "behind the scene's" behavior. How long before the "Terry Boers-like" Bob Brenly would want to put a foot in his ass? I have a better candidate,ME! I'm articulate, can speak at great length about any subject even though I have no clue what I'm saying and would be all "old man crazy" when I scan the park for some nice eye candy.

Why not just have Mike North do the play by play with Murph providing the color commentary?
George Ofman can be a reporter from the stands and interview vendors, ushers and fans.

Hey, let up. We can't all be blessed with Ed Farmer. I'm doing the best I can here, trying to think outside the box.

Though I don't agree with the vitriol here, Murph can definitely afford to "stick to his guns."

I wish I had the ability to make funny pictures like that. My simple Zook avatar took embarrassingly long.

I gotta believe he's in a shower somewhere soaping up, talking about Brooks Kieschnick's big strong chest; all the while still trying to figure out why he couldn't get his hands on both of Ryno's 1984 balls. In the background, Nate Oliver is singing about the 69 Cubs. "GIVE IT TO ME NATE!"
