Blue Jays Contacted Cubs About Halladay

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 20 at 4:34pm CST]

The Blue Jays want to move Roy Halladay this offseason and have contacted the Cubs about a potential trade, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat. However, it's unlcear if the Cubs have room for another $15.75MM in payroll. Plus, they'd have to be willing to part with top prospects, such as shortstop Starlin Castro, to obtain the Jays' ace

Agreed. I wonder if they would take Bradley too.

I'm inclined to think they would, though I'm sure we would have to take on Veron Wells to make it work. That's a whole lot of salary to add to your books.

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laugh, sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until the dream come true
Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until your dream comes true
Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream On Dream On
Dream On Dream On

halladay is great. no doubt he would be awesome to have, but im saying it again in this thread, this move is too late. the window is CLOSED on this team. halladay alone is not going to fix the cubs. how many years are left on his contract, is this his contract year? i would NOT make any further moves that would a) hamstring this team with more salary or b) give up what little "talent" they have left in the minors for one guy when your lineup is riddled with other needs and question marks. my feeling is this team isnt going to win soon unless they go new york yankees on us and buy 2 or 3 other proven winners to go with him.

i wont cry if they get him, but i think signing him is a half-hearted attempt to play with the big boys such as boston and new york, and if you arent going to go all the way and address the other needs by bringing in other winning talent, its just smokescreen and prolonging the agony.

I know as a Cub fan I've been burned before with so called prospects, but everything I read about this guy is positive and has me believing once again, in the mythical beast that is a Cub farmhand.

I'm thinking Shawon Dunston.

I'll take Dunston over Ty Griffin.

Wait, there's a prospect named Starlin Castro? Remove the first "r" and he's a double fascist.

Maybe he's the great grandson of Franciso Franco?

I wouldn't mind too terribly if he wound up similar to Dunston. Would be better than Orie, Scott, etc etc etc. Do I hope he's better? Yes. But at least at first being Dunston would be good.

I always thought Shawon got a bad rap. Did he live up to being a #1 draft choice? No. Did he have a decent at times good career? Yes. What's sad is he was hitting his peak when he hurt his back.
