Lets hope that the news that Hub broke the other day about the Bears putting feelers out about a new GM & Head Coach are true.
Here is an article from the Trib furthering the same story line:

Chicago Bears looking for new coach and GM?
By Mark J. Miller

The news came yesterday via the Chicago Tribune that the Chicago Bears are on the list for former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher. The idea of taking over the Bears or the Houston Texans supposedly "would excite" Cowher.

But current Bears coach Lovie Smith has another two years on his contract and the team supposedly doesn't want to pay two coaches simultaneously, especially if Cowher wants around $10 million annually.

And today the word is that some Bears exec is starting to look for a replacement for Smith and general manager Jerry Angelo, according to the Tribune. Former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, who has spent a lot of time with current Bears quarterback is on the list. The Buffalo Bills are supposedly talking to Shanahan this week about taking over there. Other folks on the list are reportedly Cowher and former Buccaneers and Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

The Bears are officially saying there is nothing to the rumor. Nada.

Do they have to pay the entire balance of the contract no matter what, even if Lovie finds employment elsewhere in the league? Or is his new salary prorated from whatever's left on the Bears deal?

The Bears have an easy way to finance the firing of Lovie Smith, who has 2 years left at $5 Million per year. Tommie Harris is payed $10 Million per year, but that money is not guaranteed like Lovie's money is. So fire Lovie & release Harris & call it even. Many say the Bears can't afford to fire Lovie, but the worst thing a failing organization can do is continue to pay poor performers & bad Managers. The Bears can't afford to keep Lovie.
