Comparing WSCR to the aforementioned call letters is akin to comparing a Lexus to a Yugo.

WGN and WLS are two of the most famous radio stations in the US.

O'dell, Philips and and Collins achieved the best radio job in Chicago. There is no where to go up locally from there. The best job for the last 50 years or so I might add.

Roe's job is in the top three locally.
The comparison was to Bernise doing his job for a long period of time in a field were most are not that successful. Remember the Score started from scratch & most of the "experts" didn't think it would last.
Surely you jest.

You mean like Boers and North doing their job in the same field, at the same station for more time than Bernsie has?

Bernsie has a job in the field because like it or not, the guy who made the station from scratch was North himself.

North wasn't even "drive time" when the SCORE started. He didn't make the SCORE. That's a dumb thought. You're saying if North was never born, the SCORE would not exist - sports radio in Chicago wouldn't exist. Bullshit. Sports radio was coming. It had started in NY and now every city has it. Even hillbilly towns.

If Eve didn't trick Adam would there be no bitches? No. There would have been others regardless. If Adam wasn't stupid, would we not have "dumb asses"? No. If the "Write Brothers" didn't think of air travel would we not have it today? No. Some other ass hole would have thought of it. If the first guy to fall for a "Ponzi scheme" didn't happen, would North not have fallen for a "Ponzi Scheme"? No. If the first cracker SOB, that was hated by white women, was never born, would white women love me? No. They would still hate me. I certainly don't feel like I owe that first cracker SOB any blame. Get my point?

What the fuck are they thinking at WBBM? My guess is they last a month with North and Jiggs. Perhaps Jiggs sticks for a while after they can North.

Whether or not you want to admit it, Mike North did make the Score, & just about every person who was on WSCR in the 1990's has acknowledged this. Have you forgotten how huge Mike was in the '90's & the amount of exposure he got both locally & nationally? I mean I know you dont want to admit it & you may not like it, but you can't re-write history.

I haven't watched over the air TV in years. Do they still do test patterns?

I'm in the uncomfortable position of being on team Seacrest and Scorehead on this one.

North transformed sports talk in this city. The executives setting up the SCORE would have been more than happy to have Chet headlining their station with Bruce Wolf as its young star. North destroyed the Chet paradigm of sports radio broadcasting to the betterment of us all.

That may be true, and no one can take that away from him. I know I won't try. But that was a long time ago. He hasn't done anything of substance in over 10 years.

Re-write history?...HUGE???...anyone got North's ratings from back then? Now I'm a day 1 Scorehead, but what does North mean today? Are you secretly hoping for a Steve & Garry reunion too? Johnny B & Buzz in the morning? How about Larry Lujack, Tommy Edwards, Fred Winston, John "Records" Landecker back again at WLS (or perhaps WCFL)? Actually I know the answer based upon your belief that Webio would succeed with Chet & North leading the way.

Let's come up with a list of Chicago radio legends:

Larry Lujack
Steve Dahl (for what reasons I have no idea)
Clark Webber
Dick Biondi
Wally Phillips
Bob Collins
Bob Atcher (going back to the barn dance days)

Who else makes this list? Can you seriously put Mike North on this list?

Who are the 2 most widely recognized & influential Chicago sports radio broadcasters?

How old are you? I know a few people with that pedigree. I'm suprised Santa Clara doesn't get more play as I've heard it is a beautiful place...but St. Mary's is better.

If Mr. North "TRANSFORMED" sports talk in this city, then I would expect to tune in today and hear misinformed, ignorant boobs talking ungrammatically in bad Chicago accents spouting nonsense and racial slurs. Instead I hear a Dan McNeil, whose voice and style are certainly more reminiscent of Coppock, who preceded North chronologically; I hear a Bernstein, who in many respects in the anti-North, and so on and so forth . . . I need not go on through the entire current roster of hosts and bore you further, but I don't (THANK GOD!!!) hear a lot of North in them.

What exactly is North's legacy that many of you seem to find so ubiquitous and enduring?

Bernstein is a direct descendant of North in radio with the iconoclastic style. Remember the days before North. The atheletes were gods, Chet was the high priest and the fans were the worshippers. The only connection between god and worshipper was the high priest who had unquestioned authority but was ultimately beholden to the gods.

Bernstein is not the anti North, he is more the son who the ironworker put through college to become head of the union.

Seth Mason's road map for the Score was a sort of an ESPN Sportscenter on radio. Reading scores and discussing games. Callers were not a big part of the plan.

Like him or not, and I choose to avoid Mike, he changed the model that Shaer, McNeil and Mason had in mind when the Score started. Mike became the everyman to many blue collar listeners that make up the station's original base. North's interview and calling out of Isiah Thomas put the station on the map.

North's love of attention and his Ditkaesque way of attaching his name to any product that will pay him, also helped build the Score brand, along with his own. His interview of Mike McCaskey though poor in style, endeared him to many for the way he mocked him, and went after him.

This is based upon what? There were callers into the station from day one on every show. :?

Based upon their vision for the station at the beginning.

We can just disagree here Zippy. If that's not OK I'll tell you that you are right, and I am wrong. Please let me know. I'm happy to do either one for you, Or Frank for that matter, in keeping with the upcoming Christmas Season.

I don't see how JohnKirk can be so dead-on in his thinking regarding Lovie Smith, and such a fucking dunderhead when it comes to North.

I certainly don't think my Lovie Smith thoughts are all that earth shattering. I mean who in their right mind ever thought this guy was a leader of Men, motivator, or coach? I was against his hiring from day one.
As for North, Seacrest summed up Mike Norths legacy perfectly. Weather you like him or not, if you are objective you surely recognise Norths role in the development & growth of the Score. I'm not the biggest North fan these days, but the 1990's were a fucking riot with North building WSCR from the little engine that could, into a nationally recognized sports radio station. Funny how things change. CBS now owns WSCR, & Mike North now works for CBS. Knowing how networks like to cross promote & market, I wonder if North will show up on WSCR at some point?
