I just heard for the first time last night that Nip/Tuck is not being renewed. I thought that the show's producer must have wanted to end it, but that is not the case. FX President John Landgraf has an interesting if not stupid philosophy on tv shows shelf life: "When asked about the cancellation, Landgraf noted that he felt it was time and doubted that any FX show would surpass 100 episodes. He said, 'If you tried to do 150 episodes of The Sopranos, you would begin to diminish the quality of those shows. The David Chases (The Sopranos) and Shawn Ryans (The Shield), they’re taking on social commentary and grand sweeping questions. If we want to go after that brass ring, we have to accept they have limited shelf life.”

So in other words, all you fans of It's Always Sunny, Sons of Anarchy, The League, etc - understand that sometime around 100 episodes, it's going to be cancelled by FX. That is pure bullshit. Sunny is in it's fifth season now at 13 per season, so probably only 3 more seasons at most.

They did the same thing with Angel and Buffy.

To equate a show like Nip/Tuck with the Sopranos in terms of quality is totally absurd.

I thought that too SP.

What a stupid fucking philosophy.

It has to be about money and syndication right?

That's the only thing I can figure.

Why would you kill the golden goose before it laid all the eggs?

it's the right philosophy from the wrong source.

"sopranos" was supposed to be a 4 season show. had it executed that, it could have been on part with some of the best shows of all time. it definitely stretched itself too thin.

i believe there's a 5 season rule with shows, in terms of quality. no show needs to be more than 5 seasons long, and most of the greatest shows that lasted more than 5 seasons, have no more than 5 seasons that are great ("seinfeld" has about 4, "simpsons" has about 6 or 7, for example).

"sunny" doesn't need to run 8 or 9 seasons. it'll get extremely tired and old by that time.

Ugh, that doesn't make me feel good about the future of Sunny. :(

The best show of ALL TIME "The Shield" was on FX and they ended that, so I have no hope for FX anymore.

Watched that show from the first episode, about 3/4 of the way in, yelled "Holy Shit" and was hooked for the next 6 (or 7?) seasons.

I believe that David Ryan (producer's name?) wanted to end The Shield. I didn't want it to end but I guess all good things must.

It definitely changes my view of FX and how much I allow myself to get into a series. I guess there is no sense in getting all involved in Sons of Anarchy now since it's in it's third season.

If they cancel Sunny, I am going to protest outside their studios - naked. That should definitely get them in gear.

That series finale ranks right up there with Seinfeld.
