Is there anybody, besides me, who was annoyed with the volume of the public address system at the Superdome, for Saturday night's game ? Was there nothing that the NFL network could have done so that we didn't have both the P.A. system and broadcast coming at us, at the same time ? Or, was it an attempt to drowned out Bob Papa ?

Even though Bryant Gumbel is nearly 2 years removed from being PBP voice of NFL Network's primetime broadcasts, Bob Papa hasn't exactly been an upgrade. He should stick to his own team, the New York Giants, as their radio voice. You would think the NFL's own television network would have a more qualified PBP to call their Thursday/Friday/Saturday night broadcasts from November to the end of the regular season. Any idea what Tom Hammond does when he's not calling Notre Dame football on NBC? What about Pat Summerall? Heck, what's Gary Bender doing these days?

The NFL Network's broadcast quality has been disappointing. Besides Bob Papa & Matt Millen, on loan from ESPN with Cris Collinsworth now doing NBC's "Sunday Night Football" full time, there have been glitches with sound, inaccurate graphics, etc. In fact, that Bears/49ers' game in San Francisco featured some 10 minutes WITHOUT ANY ANNOUNCERS, bringing back memories of the Jets/Dolphins' game NBC did over 25 years ago in Miami. I think they have 1 more game this season, the Chargers/Titans' game on Christmas Night in Nashville Friday. They should be a lot better than this.

On the announcing crew, for Bob Papa, he is an improvement for Bryant Gumbel, now the one guy I would say has not been the best has been Millen.

2 things, On Thursday's game, he called Dallas Clark, Daryl Clark.

On Satruday's game, in the 4th quarter, when they were up 24-17 and getting ready to kick the field goal, Millen says I would take the delay of game penalty, does he not study on Dallas's kicking woes, so no to the penalty, of course the kicker misses.

I like what the NFL network does and they have these games on, so they can put the NFL network on all the cable and satelite services, like ESPN is on all of them. It hasn't worked and they will probably have games on their network for the next couple of years, but it is starting to look like a failure.

I think Mac put it best when he said that Papa has no presence. I used to like Millen as an analyst in his pre-Detroit days, and he was a great HFC guest, but he comes across as smug and not a bit humbled by his colossal failure as an evaluator of football talent. Millen tries too hard to be funny and Papa isn't exactly equipped to engage him in a playful give-and-take.

What's very unfortunate about Matt Millen is that before he ruined the Detroit Lions as team president, he was a really good analyst when CBS Sports had the NFC package and in the early years of FOX Sports carrying the NFC pack when CBS was out of the biz in the mid '90s. Matt was the #2 analyst working with Dick Stockton on both CBS & FOX in the early '90s before joining Bob Costas and the "Football Night in America" team on NBC Sports for their "Wildcard Saturday" doubleheader in New York last January and in Tampa when "The Peacock" aired the Super Bowl in February. He should know his stuff, especially concerning all the college games he & Sean McDonough worked on ESPN/ABC Sports, helping Stuart "Booyah Boy" Scott and Steve Young on ESPN's "Monday Night Countdown" before the network's "Monday Night Football" game, and now on the NFLN primetime games. I bet Matt would be a lot better if someone other than Bob Papa was his analyst...

What a "fuck you" to Lions fans that was who just wanted to watch playoff football after their 0-16 season just ended. Millen was the last thing they wanted to see.

I just wonder with Matt Millen at ESPN and NFL Network, would the schedule makers, ever have a Thursday or Monday night game at Detroit. Millen has worked in Ann Arbor, but I think this would be a little diffrent.

Reents, the Lions haven't been ready for prime time for years. If they continue to play like turkeys on Thanksgiving Day, the NFL and their main broadcast partners, FOX Sports & CBS Sports, will take them off their schedule...

Reents, in the cases of the Browns & Bills, ESPN thought those teams would be MUCH, MUCH BETTER than they've shown. In fact, the Bills SHOULD'VE BEATEN the Patriots in New England way back in Week 1.

Yes, The Bills should have won that game, but you know they don't go to the good teams from the year before anymore, remeber when the Super Bowl got 3 games on Monday Night, the Steelers defending Super Bowl Champions have been on once and that was on the road, and I think the Cardinals once too, also on the road.

That is true, Reents. I also think that teams would rather be on NBC's "Sunday Night Football" now than ESPN's "Monday Night Football", even though it's national TV either way you slice it.

I think you are right where teams would rather play on Sunday then Monday, it's like Monday night is now Sunday night, with Sunday night being able to flex games and the matchups they have.
