one of the 49ers early first round draft picks and a 3 rd round pick to let the rebuilding begin. this would get you a shoot a good ol or dt in the first round which is where the rebuilding need to begin. plus hester and briggs money off the books you could sign younges and better ol and dl and rebuild alot faster.

Only if SF hired Jerry Angelo as their next GM.

JA would never trade anyone for a 1st rd pick. He does his best work in the later rounds...

You would be lucky to get a 2nd and 5th for that.

I don't think this team would want a first round pick, they probably need a shitload of third and second round "cheaper" picks, but I don't think it would matter anyway, management would just shit them away anyway...

I'd be shocked if there was any team in the league that didn't want a first round pick. All these picks are voluntary. They don't have to make a selection. The day that I see a team forfeit a first round pick is the day I'll believe there is a team that doesn't want one.

Of course the Bears want a first round pick, but no team is giving them one for Briggs and Hester.

Let me rephrase that:
If the bears would have a first round draft pick, they would probably trade down to get more picks knowing that they have a lot more holes to fill...

If you are going to trade Briggs, I would rather them try to get Boldin from Arizona if they are still going to need to trade him.

I know. I guess I wasn't really speaking to you as much as the people that say things like "no team wants a top ten pick".

No team is forced to have a top ten pick. They may think that they can get more value with two second round picks but great players win games and top ten picks have the highest rate of being great.

All this talk reminds me how foolish it was to give a 2nd round pick away for Gaines Adams. Gaines fuckin Adams?

Didn't the Vikings pass on a draft pick a few years back?

BTW, I just read on the internet that the Bears might trade Hester and Briggs for a 1st round pick. Did you read that, too, Rick?

not on purpose. They got their card up to the podium late and got passed over.

It may seem meatballish, but because the Bears do NOT have a first round pick as a result of the Jay Cutler acquisition and a second round pick resulting from the Gaines Adams trade with Tampa Bay, I think you have to explore every avenue if it means getting back in the NFL Draft before the third round. It's very unlikely you can get a first round pick for Lance Briggs, let alone Devin Hester & Brian Urlacher for that matter. If you can get a second or third, I say go for it. The Bears have as many holes as Swiss cheese on this roster, and unless the McCaskeys want to spend money like water in free agency like Jerry Jones in Dallas & Dan Snyder in Washington are prepared to do, we could be looking at another miserable Bears' season one year from now. With the exception of Jay Cutler, there aren't any untradeables on the current Bears' roster...

I can see trading Hester for whatever you can get because he's average at best and could easily be replaced on the free agent market but why would you ever trade Lance Briggs? He's one of the top linebackers in the game and trading him would create a HUGE hole on the defense. All so you can draft a player at a different position and HOPE he can play football? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

I don't think the 49ers would move a 1st round pick for Briggs or Hester. The most they would probably get back for Briggs would be a 2nd round pick, and I'm not sure they'd get more than a 4th rounder for Hester. There's always a possibility that some GM out there would overpay in a trade, but I think most would not give up more than what I had said, and that's probably a best case scenario.

I said this then...the Bears should have traded Hester after the 2006 Super Bowl season.
If they trade Hester now, they won't get much for him. But I would trade him for Hakeem Nicks! :)
Now way will they trade Briggs...but I think they could get whatever they can for Urlacher.
At the time I thought the Gaines Adams deal might have been a good one...OOPS! To give up a second round draft pick for Adams was just plain stupid. Adams looks like a WR, not a D lineman. How the hell did he get so skinny?
