Here's ad prices for succesful TV shows. "Sunday Night Football" charges $108,000 for a 30 second spot on their pre game show. 340k for the actual game. They get like 14-18 million viewers. The Trib and Sun-Times probably don't even have 1 million readers now-a-days. That's why it could only be 2 or 3k tops. "60 Minutes" only charges 93k.

That's a really good point Spaulding. Why kick all the players, all the assistant coaches, and all the media out? They really don't want this thing to leak out. Hopefully it's a press conference introducing Bill Cowher as the new head coach, along with his new personnel director. The report that Cowher will not be coach could be a total red herring too. A nice smooth transition, one coach and GM out, one coach in PD. Get right to business reshaping the organization immediately.

Well, one can dream, right? It really is a bizarre situation though when they clear the building like a Keith Traylor fart.

Nah. They sent all of the assistant coaches home but Lovie spent the rest of the day at Halas Hall in meetings which were probably to decide who gets fired, & to script the press conference tomorrow.
I think if Lovie was getting the axe he would have been sent home to.
God I hope you are right & I am wrong though...

NY Times charges about 200K for a full page ad, chicago could be 25% of that.

http://www.gaebler.com/Cost-of-Newspape ... icago---IL
__# of columns x __# vertical inches x __rate per inch = ___ total ad price

Even if the 755 is wrong...say it's half that at 300 or so now, I'd think 5*20 ish * 300 = 30K

They were giving Lovie the choice today, we fire everybody and you do what we say or you all get out. His response I practiced well, we'll go from here.

You're right. It's definitely more than I thought. I'm not sure I totally believe those rates. If they can get that type of money, why are all papers going out of business? Still, it's more than what I thought. It was probably between 30-40k. They did two papers. Maybe 80k. So it might be close to the 100k that you suggested. Spaulding is right. I'm wrong. I thought I was never wrong.

I guess I'll stick with my original thought: Dave Toub will be annouced as the new Bears Coach. The thinking being, they still have to pay Lovie anyway,so go cheap and hire from within to replace Lovie.

OR

Like I said yesterday, they told Lovie they were handpicking his new assistants,he got pissed and took the buyout!

Nothing. Press Conference delayed as they realize they have a shot at cower but must overhaul entire staff and front office to do so. They need to take some time to talk to cower and his people.

Jay Glazer tweeted this morning that Lovie told him he is coming back.
We're stuck with this lousy fuck for another season kids. I hope he loses every fucking game next year.
Good morning...

Again, I don't know why everybody wants to be so quick in giving Drake the axe. The development of the WRs was one of the few bright spots on this team. Part of the is obviously have a QB that is worlds better than Orton or Grossman, but part of it is coaching too I think.

If it were up to me, I'd keep Drake and Marinelli. If Lovie stays, he should not get the hold the red challenge flag ever again.

Good morning...

In 6 years Lovie Smith has a 537 winning pct
2 playoff appearances
2 playoff wins
1 Super Bowl appearance.

Where does this put him all time on the Bears coaching list?

Something off the wall?

Lovie stays, Turner,Drake,Hamilton, Hiestand, Babich all fired

Taub to defensive coordinator and weis or martz to OC

I only want like 2 of those to happen

The Bears dont have the business sense or the balls to make the tough decisions & the necessary changes. Meanwhile teams like Washington & Buffalo clean house so they can bring in a new regime. Shit, at least they're trying. The Redskins flew their team plane to Denver to pick up Mike Shanahan yesterday. They are doing it the right way. Clean house & start over. The Bears are too lazy to put the time & effort into rebuilding from the bottom up & the top down. Keeping a failure like Lovie & stripping him of power doesnt work...it never did & never will. I have worked with guys who should have been fired & weren't...& it never ever works. Keeping them around ends up hurting the organization & morale. I have no doubt keeping Lovie will have the same result for the Bears.
Who in the McCaskey Family is running the Bears? Who is in charge? Do the players even know who makes the ultimate decisions for the Bears? It seems like the Family doesnt want anything to do with decision making so they let a bean counter who knows nothing about Football, sweaty Teddy, run the organization. The Bears are a disfunctional organization that has incompetent leaders at every level...ownership, operations, talent evaluation, & coaching. There isnt a company or organization that can be successful with incompetence at the 4 highest levels of the organization.
I am sick of it & I hope Bears fans give the team a rough ride next year.
Maybe I'm all fired up over nothing & Bill Cowher is downtown waiting to be introduced at the Bears press conference as the new Bears head coach.
Nah...

If they fire the OC and other offensive assistants and keep Lovie for 2010 and then they fire Lovie after next season, the Bears receivers|Cutler|et al end up with 3 different offensive coordinators/schemes in 3 seasons. Do they really want Hester having to learn a new offense every season. It took Hester 3 seasons to get a handle on Turner's relatively simple offense.

The Bears team that Lovie inherited went to the playoffs & Super Bowl.
The Bears team that Lovie assembled is a massive failure.

If your gonna evaluate Shanahan on his recent performance, then do the same with Lovie.
The last 3 years are a fucking disaster.

Really? So Dick Jauron gets the credit for the Super Bowl? Yeah, im sure you and Hub agree on that.

I absolutely LOVE that you want to emulate the Redskins and Bills. Why not try and copy the Raiders while youre at it

He's 23-25 since the Superbowl. Not a good way to develop a team that had SB potential in 06.

They also lost the SB and the Panthers playoff game because of poor in game adjustments.

Not to mention he called timeout with 1 second left against Seattle which did nothing to help them win.

The best one they had might have sat on the bench until week 15 and half of them cannot run a route to save their life.

Someday I'll figure out the quote function...maybe not...
Wait...I thought the head coach doesnt get any credit if he has great players. The Bears 2006 Super Bowl team had a great Defense that was Ron Riveras Defense.
I would love to see the Bears Management do exactly what the Redskins & Bills Management has done this week. Admit that they are fucked up & clean house. You cant fix it if you dont try. At least they are trying. The Bears have no leadership. Period.
Go ahead & defend the beloved though my friend! GO BEARS!

Lovie better hope the Detroit Lions don't become an actual team and therefore allow him to "save" his job by going 2-0 against them.

Pep Hamilton is the only one fired. They don't tell him in advance, but require his attendance at the news conference. He is ushered out of Halas Hall through a spanking machine line of coaches, front office members and media.

The remaining 2 or 3 Lovie Smith ALS'rs will be celebrating at 2:00 today.
Football retardation remains in Chicago for another year...

Ron Turner and Bob Babich are fired.

Lovie is retained and says, "We get off the bus running" at least three times during the press conference.

I have supported Lovie in the past, but with a Bill Cowher sitting out there and your coach has not seen a playoff game in 3 years,it seemed like an easy decision to me. I DO give Lovie credit though, because I think the Bears could have easily gone 4-12 each of the last 2 years. They are playing with old guys & a mix of mid-low draft picks. Not many 1st or 2nd rounders thanks to Angelo.

The best analogies I've heard this week have come from Hampton. He said something about crap through a goose on Sunday and a fat kid will never tell his mom to stop baking him cakes yesterday.
