I can't believe that it is necessary to tell you this...but you do realize that nearly every coach in the NFL had college experience, right?

That's right...and we're not talking about Division I either...no sir, we are talking about coaches from the big boys...

Callers are calling Les tonight about either the Bears or Illinois hiring Mike Leach.

See, I started a fun discussion without it even making it to the airwaves.

The more I think about this, the University of Illinois should seriously consider Leach as their next head football coach. That my friends would shake up the Big Ten.
They said the same thing about Rich Rodriguez.

The Big Ten has adjusted defensively and while Leach is a good coach he's not going to come in and change the Big Ten. Most teams run a pass happy offense these days.

Do you realize that Mike Leach is regarded by his piers as an offensive genius?

I do. It's been very well dock-umented.

I think the idea of "shaking up" the Big 10 is overdone, but I don't put the blame for what has happened at Michigan on Rodriguez's offensive system. There have been some extenuating circumstances there, and the defense is awful.

I don't think Leach would revolutionize Big 10 football. He'd just be really, really good.

Looks like Bates could be the guy. Mike Lombardi was extremely high on him.

Yea. Jeremy Bates appears to now be the favorite. The Bears are clearly listening to Jay Cutler.
Bates worked for Gruden & is said to be Jon Gruden Junior...but as a guy who likes Gruden, I still cant get excited about Bates. I'm not sure he's ready to be an OC. He had a terrible year at USC.
Unless the Bears are going to hire an OC & DC & sign them to 1 year contracts, the decision to keep Lovie & replace the coordinators completely screws things up going forward. Would Phillips fire Lovie & tell the new head coach that he must keep the OC & DC? This makes no sense whatsoever.

It would make perfect financial sense, not that anyone here wants to hear that. Bring on the young, hungry, cheap up-and-coming coordinator and either he succeeds next year or goes quietly away.
