Remember all of the bitching you guys did when we didn't draft a tight end. I said at the time that these guys would be no better then Des Clark. Clark is like many tight ends. He just needs somebody to throw it to him. Most of them are all the same. They're good if the quarterback looks their way. They suck if they don't. I thought it was correct for Angelo to go the way he did in the draft if he didn't think a Tight End was special and it looks like I was right.

They're are like 5 elite tight ends in the game. Then they are all the same. Clark's not elite. He's just gotten a few thrown to him and caught them. Clark sucked the last few years acording to everybody. Now he's good. No. We just have a QB that can check down to him in a timely manner. We have an Offensive line that gives him time. So many factors are involved. At least 25 of the 30 staring tight ends could have done the same as Clark the past 2 games. Hell, are 2nd string tight end had 2 touch downs last game. Is he great?

Then why did you want a tight end in the draft this past year Nas?

Another reason Clark's getting so many catches is our receivers, besides Moose, can't get open. Yes Berrian can fly past you on those go routes. And yes that's fine if he can get a 50 yard TD every game. But for those short intermediate routes Berrian and Davis can't seperate. If Moose is covered then that leaves Clark.

Alot of other offenses don't go to the TE because receivers are open. Not holding this against Clark I'm just pointing out a fact.

I've hated Clark for the last couple of years now and really wanted to draft a TE.
I've hated Moose after last year and really wanted a new WR.
Both have proved me wrong these last two games and I hope like hell they continue to do so. I can forget the past in a hurry, just ask me what I did yesterday. TE was a definate need before the season and if Clark want's to prove me wrong then ROCK ON!

Try not to fracture any ribs while sucking yourself off there, Beardown. The Bears haven't been tested at all. Green Bay is a joke and Detroit couldn't beat the fucking Illini on the road. Under no circumstances do I expect Desmond Clark to maintain his current pace, which would be 80 receptions, 1296 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

By the way, this is Clark's 8th year and he's only had 1 good season. I'm not ready to blow my load just because the Bears rolled over a couple of patsies in the first 2 weeks.

No he won't continue that pace. I've said he's the same as 25 other tight ends. I agree with you. My point is don't waste the draft pick if you see a more talented player because he is no better then Clark. He just needed a QB to give him chances.

I will suck my self off every now and then. I'm sick of paying the local hooker $200 bucks to do it.

Here's some TE Jeopardy for the class...

The answer is:

Antonio Gates
Tony Gonzalez
Jeremy Shockey
Todd Heap
Alge Crumpler
Jason Witten
Heath Miller
Chris Cooley
Dallas Clark
Kellen Winslow
Randy McMichael
LJ Smith
Ben Watson
Ben Troupe
Vernon Davis
Daniel Graham

What is the question?

Don't be too hard on Beardown. He's trying to recover from his dismal showing with his Sox predictions by getting a fresh start with the Bears. :P

Who are the NFL tight ends that are qualitatively different from Desmond Clark?

Correct. You'll also notice that I cut it off at 16, meaning Clark is in the bottom half of the league's TEs. There are still a few guys that one could argue are better than Clark.

I think you will soon be able to add Pope to the list. I wanted him on the Bears.

I still think your getting me wrong. I never said Clark was better then any of those guys. 5 guys on that list are better. Then the rest our all the same and equal to Desmond Clark.

But Bucket is saying, I believe, that all of those guys are substantially better than Clark, thus countering your assertion.

For the record, who are the only 5 TEs you think are better than Clark?

Gates
Watson
Winslow
Shockey
Crumpler

Gonzo has lost a step and his leaping ability. The rest you can all put together.

Desmond Clark is as good as Todd Heap?

Laughable.

He was hurt 1 year.

2002 - 16 games
2003 - 16 games
2004 - 6 games
2005 - 16 games

And you can add Jason Witten, Heath Miller, and a shitload of others as well.

Ok fine. He missed 4 games his rookie year in 2001 too. I looked up the numbers. two 800 yard seasons. one 600 yard season. Not bad. Not off the charts. Add him to the list add the two other guys too. that makes 8 just to concede that to you.

My point was don't waste a pick on a lower first round pick when there is more value at other positions. Angelo agreed and it will benefit the Bears this year and in years to come. Des Clark is more then adequate and you had him on the team. He was able to trade down to get Manning. I like him by the way. He got another pick as well. Good move. I said it on draft day when everybody was bitching (holding my cock right now). If we don't win the Super Bowl this year it won't be because of tight end play.

Nobody was crying about not taking a TE with the 26th pick. They were pissed because it was all defense for the first 5 rounds. There's a big difference.

Oh there were plenty of people bitching over not getting a tight end. Maybe just a few here but several media ass holes and plenty of callers to the shows.

I also disagree with drafting offense just for the sake of doing it. Take the best player available. If it's all even then draft for need. No WR, that late, would have been better then Berrian or Bradley. It must be WR that you are referring too because we didn't need backs or O-line man.

By the way. Devin Hester was an offensive pick. Yes I know he doesn't have a position. But he'll give you great field position all year and I'll say 4 touch downs this year. Lovie should put him on kick off returns too.
