If you were watching Comcast SportsNet last Saturday night, and wondering why the Red Wings/Sharks' game was on in Chicago, there's a reason. As the ongoing VERSUS/DIRECTV dispute over rights' fees appears to be digging in with no compromise in sight, CSN Chicago has come to the aid of hockey fans with something called "NHL XTRA". For the rest of the regular season, Chicago's regional sports network has added a bunch of out of market games, in addition to the ones involving our red hot Blackhawks. Best of all, you wouldn't have to order the "NHL Centre Ice" package to get these games. It is something different, that's for sure. For more details on "NHL XTRA" and which games will air on CSN locally, check out CSNchicago.com for the schedule of "XTRA" matchups.

Douchebag, that was the Sharks & Kings from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, featuring former "SportsChannel Report" anchor Randy Hahn providing the call on CSN Bay Area...

To my knowledge, Crosscheck, Comcast SportsNet Chicago supplanted FOX Sports Net Chicago & the former SportsChannel in 2005. They also have CSN regionals in Washington, DC/Baltimore, Philadelphia, Bay Area, California, Portland, OR, New England, and New York. The one in NYC is known as SportsNet New York, or SNY for short. However, those CSN regionals that carry NHL teams are the ones in DC, Philly & Bay Area...

thanks illini, that's useful info, but I went to that website and it said that the game this past monday night was in HD, but it wasn't, I hope that the rest are, though...

These are actually some really good matchups, I'm excited about this...

Chances are, you'll hear the descriptions of these "XTRA" matchups from the local Comcast SportsNet announcers, such as the aforementioned Randy Hahn calling the Sharks' games on CSN Bay Area...Come Friday night, you'll hear the voices of CSN Washington calling the Maple Leafs/Capitals' game from the Verizon Center if you tune in...
