Well, I wouldn't go that far. With the injury to Lilly, the undependability (is that a word??) of Big Dumbass, and the inexperience of Randy Wells I think they need to sign a solid starter. If they are going the injury risk/reclamation project route why not just keep Harden?

Sheets is better. Sheets is healthier. Sheets would still be cheaper. A 2 year deal with $8 million guaranteed isn't a big deal. Sheets is at worse a #2 when healthy.

For the record I thought the Cubs should have held onto Harden.

If Sheets is healthy he wouldn't have to throw for teams on Tuesday.

The teams said to be in attendance: Seattle, Cubs, Yankees, Mets, Rangers, St Louis, Toronto and Orioles. The Dodgers and Angels may be there as well. Some big spenders on that list. If he throws well his price tag is only going up.

Edit- Dodgers confirmed. Brewers in. Angels out.

After missing an entire season due to injury, I"m not sure I agree with this

The riot came out today saying he hoped the Cubs signed Sheets for whatever it is worth

What happened to him and the texas rangers? I thought he was working out with someone from their organization last year and it was almost a done deal that he would be with them once healthy? Isn't his mad dog's older brother their pitching coach now down there after being ben's pitching coach in milwaukee before?

Free agent right-hander Ben Sheets is seeking a guaranteed salary of $8 million in 2010, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.

Sheets is currently being wooed by the A's, Rangers and Mets, amongst others. Interest in the righty has amped up since he put on a show last week in Louisiana, hitting 91 MPH with his fastball and the low-70s with his curve.

Looks like they should have made a blind bid. It would have been cheaper than that price tag.

Signed with the A's 1 yr $10mil. Wow, it must be great to be a damaged pitcher.

Now watch him go 11-3 and the A's trade him at the deadline

I'm guessing that's exactly their plan. Trade him at the deadline for prospects or hope he's solid enough to get Type A draft picks for him at the end of the year

Either that place or San Diego were the best home fields for Sheets.

But, this also smells of the A's trying to avoid the case brought against the Marlins. Looks like they were again desperate to meet the requirement that a certain amt. is spent on payroll...or lose the right to take the luxury tax $ paid by the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, etc..

I would have loved to have seen Sheets sign with the Cubs. But I can easily understand why the Cubs would not want to pay 8 million Guaranteed to a guy that has not pitched in over a year and hit just 91 on the radar guy in his exhibition for teams. You can't really count on him making 30 or more starts. I am glad he's going to be in the A.L. now, and will be interested to see how he does. I might just have to go to the cell to see him pitch a game there. Always liked to watch him pitch. If the A's do deal him near the deadline (and he's healthy) and the Cubs are contending.....one can dream...

He gave up 10 runs and got NO outs yesterday.

Silva could do that with ease.

Yeah but signing sheets wouldn't have made Bradley dissapear. Silva is going to be starting at AAA and then will be gone.
