Bears hire Mike Tice to coach offensive line
January 15, 2010 3:36 PM | 13 Comments | UPDATED STORY

By Dan Pompei

The Bears are bringing Mike Tice to Chicago as their offensive line coach, the Tribune has learned. The team was very aggressive in negotiations and struck a deal quickly.

"I'm excited, really excited," Tice said.

The former head coach of the Vikings had been working in Jacksonville as the assistant head coach/tight ends coach. The Jaguars gave the Bears permission to talk to Tice when it was unclear whether or not their staff would be retained.

Since that time, the Jaguars have decided to retain their coaching staff.

A source said Tice would like to be in the Midwest so he could be closer to his children.

Thanks kujoe_7

This was the first I heard about it being official, so forget all the haters.

While the Bears did upgrade their offensive line with the hiring of Mike Tice today, I wish they hired an offensive coordinator first. As far as who might be the Bears' new defensive coordinator, does the name Karl Dunbar mean anything to you?

Karl Dunbar was an assistant with the Bears, RFDC, in 2004 when Dick Jauron was head coach...

That might have been Carl Weathers, RFDC..."Rocky" was quite a film when it first came out.

Why does it matter that the Bears hired an O-line coach before an OC. I believe you guys are forgetting they didn't fire all of their offensive coaches.
