Bears defensive end Gaines Adams has died, the Greenville (S.C.) News has reported.

The 26-year-old was reportedly taken to the emergency room at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood County where he died, County Coroner James T. Coursey told the Greenville News.

Adams, a star at Clemson, was the fourth pick in the 2007 draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bears traded a second-round draft pick for him in October, intent on rebuilding their pass rush around him.

An autopsy will be performed later today by a forensic pathologist in Anderson County, Coursey told the Greenville News.

Well sure, I don't think any of us know Gaines Adams. Compassion is nice, but you can't mourn every person in the world you barely know either.

The heart attack is obviously very puzzling. Wonder if the autopsy will find some combination of drugs/supplements/steroids etc in his system.

I'm leaning Len Biasesque at this point. You wouldn't think that a guy could have a heart condition and be in the NFL for several years but maybe that will be the case. If he did have some rare medical condition that might explain why he was not able to bulk up as he needed. His heart condition may have kept him from sustaining the effort needed to allow the body to gain mass. That doesn't sound like it is possible, but who knows.

It is a sad story and it is going to create some interesting discussions over the next year. I can already here B/B callers upset that B/B become a little pithy about all of the love and memorializing for a guy that had a hard time getting on the field for 8 or so games.

How old is Cutler? I was doing dishes and heard chicago bears...he was 26. Thought it was cutler for a minute. If your thinking about draft picks youre psychotic and a terrible person. My first thought was "Does he still count against the cap this year?'

He was horrible on the field, a terrible trade by Angelo, but nobody should go at 26.
