Everytime I hear him, he seems to go out of his way to be a complete ass to his callers.
Along the lines of other Score solo hosts: Mike Murphy > Tommy Williams > Larry Holmes.
Holmes has proven himself to be an unnecessary prick at times. Instead of sitting back and letting the call unfold, like he did with Jeff "No Rats" back on 1/12, he too often chooses to be confrontational and takes it as a compliment to be a Bernstein-like jag-off. I could probably handle this 'tude if he were to really let his thought progression go to the next logical step (a la Bernstein) but he seems either unwilling or incapable of achieving this. Murphy kept it simple to fit his kitschy schtick, Williams did so just for the sake of simplicity (allow the caller to make the leap). Holmes seems to keep it simple because having gotten approval from Dan & Terry he feels he's gone as far as necessary, and yet when a caller attempts to go to the next logical step, Holmes will repeat that step with an air of skepticism or disdain.
Of all the solo shows, his sounds like its less about the callers and more about himself. IMHO, he's an intellectual lightweight and simply parrots the less appealing aspects of Bernstein.
. . . and yes, I exercise the the PTFB option frequently.
