I usually enjoy listening to the King with his utility role and I think he has done well as a Chicago Sports guy transition from being the Whipping Boy at Cool101

But Saturday Morning with Rosenblog the secret has come out. He has never seen Slapshot! A Huge Red Flag!

I give a pass to some of the YUTE of today. I try to direct them to such things as Caddyshack, Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Stripes and even some more mind numbing up in smoke type stuff, but a mid 30's sports talk got HAS GOT TO SEE SLAPSHOT!

Not once someone around that station asked "Who Owns the______" and someone didnt repeat it with a "Who owns the Chiefs? Ownnnnns" , "They brought their fucking cars!" and of course "OLD TIME HOCKEY" never came up???

I am not even close to a hockey guy and I have seen the movie like 30 times! "Hey Hanrahan! Your wife's a dyke!"

Rosenbloom ripped him rightfully all morning!

I haven't either...I'm thinking about asking Danny Mac on a date to see it on the big screen.

I saw it once about 20 years ago. Don't remember much about it except the Hanson brothers played with toys or something like that.

One of those movies for me that I've never seen in it's entirety.
Always in bits and pieces.

It's on my list of must see though.

Never seen it in its entirety, not much of a priority, either.

Seen it twice. Both times the other person oversold it. Its very good. Its billed as a Caddyshackian level comedy.

The guy flashing at the fashion show was good stuff.

you'd go to that and miss the blues game? I love the movie as much as the next guy, but not at the expense of missing a game...

It's not about the movie or the plot in the case of caddyshack or slapshot.

late 90's Esquire magazine had an article, "How to make it in the corporate world"

Yes, it was half joking, but if the boss gives you something of non monetary value like "The Ranger did a Great job" on that assignment, but everyone else got $$$, Ranger might drop a "So I got that going for me, which is nice" and then the boss laughs, next thing you know, Ranger is VP of Acme, Inc! All based on Caddyshack lines

or just knowing what "Gunga la gunga " means

I watched it as a yout the first time with my Grandma. She saw that Paul Newman was the star and it was about sports, so she thought it would be something both of us might like. She stopped the movie about half way through, called Paul Newman foul mouthed and said she lost respect for him as an actor.

I didn't even know who Paul Newman was at the time but I turned it back on after she left because boobies and foul language titilated a young good dolphin.

I hope you enjoyed that insight into my formative years.

bigfan, there are a couple of lines that I like in the movie and I love Chevy's character. But the rest to me is just ok.

I think it's really all about when you watch it. I didn't see it for the first time when I was a kid. I think it was toward the end of high school that I finally saw it. And you know how it can be when you see an old movie for the first time 15 years after it was made...especially when everyone LOVES it. It's always disappointing. The same thing happened with Slapshot for me.

However, The Holy Grail is a movie I didn't see until like 18 years after it was made and I think that film is absolutely brilliant. Same with Life of Brian. If I happen to run across it on tv, I will stop and watch it. I love that one.

I like Rodney, too, but it's just not one of those movies that I have to watch if it happens to be on. I own the DVD, but I would probably never be compelled to watch it.

I've never lost a chance for corporate advancement because I couldn't quote Slap Shot, Caddyshack, or any other movie.

But, I'm just a hell of a conversationalist.

JERRY: Did you hear something?

ELAINE: Yeah, like a swoosh.

JERRY: Yeah.

ELAINE: It must be the fabric. It's rubbing between you thighs when you walk. That's what's making that swooshy sound.

(George walks back and forth to verify and it swooshes again)

GEORGE: I probably didn't hear it on the way over because of the street noise. (he panics) This is no good! I got to meet these guys from MacKenzie for lunch in half an hour!

JERRY: So what? What would they care?

GEORGE: This MacKenzie, he's a bit of a nut. Someone told me he fired the last guy because his nose whistled when he breathed.

JERRY: So you think you're not gonna get the job because your pants make a noise?

GEORGE: Let's say it comes down to me and one other guy. He's got a nice quiet suit, and I'm whooshing all over the place! Who do you think he's gonna hire?

JERRY: You know, I think all these interviews are making you nuts.

Movies are like music, everyone is a critic. I wouldnt force it anyone. That being said, as a hockey fan, I think its a great movie for the one-liners. Id much rather watch Miracle though if I want to watch a real hockey movie. Same thing with Caddyshack, great movie for one-liners, but if I really want to watch a golf movie, Ill watch Caddyshack 2.

You don't know that for a fact? Maybe a former boss was in line for some cooporate outing picnic and said 'I want a hamburger, I want a hot dog, I want a......" and Dr. Ken said 'What a pig!" and it got back to the guy, not fully understanding it was a line from Caddyshack? Not a good line, but a line however and maybe that guy thought it was funny and that guy was now pissed and gave them promotion to Ike South?

Now, if you turned to him and said 'you'll get nothing and like it" you might be his new buddy and if you said it with a great Ted Knight voice, maybe you retired by now? But then again, you might be.
