As boring as expected. I watched the first and last 15 minutes. They sit at a big table that is suppossed to be a big dart board, I think? Funny thing is that the table is too big to fit all of them in camera shot and North usually gets cut from the right side. Only his legs get in a number of shots.

It's basically the sportswriters type show that Jiggs directs the stories at either Savgae, Hedge or North. They start with a news story, then sports, then news, etc etc.

In between North tries to inject his uninformed comments and does wacky stuff when they fade out to commercials (Waving, brushing his hair, begging for sponsors like a cereal box with a peice of paper with CEREAL SPONSOR needed) at CBS, they must think thats all wacky fun....idiots!

At the end, Terry Savage was all giddy with the 'We did it!" slapping Mike on the back.

Give it 6 months and out. no need for such a show at 5 AM on the weekdays.

Pappy is wearing an affliction t-shirt, and forgot to comb his hair.

I watched the whole two hours, almost fell asleep, but was able to keep one eye open. Big Fan is right, table is to big and they have a “monster cam” in the middle of the table that turns and does close ups, this leads me back to a old though, “pappy, get those teeth cleaned or something”….you cant do close ups with people with poor dental hygiene. Anyway, to me, to many people talking, to all over the place, one minute it its cutler, next it’s the market and back to cutler.

I assumed that the show was going to be broken into segments, like 15 minutes of Pappy and Jiggs, then Savage for money market updates, not actually giving North a chance to give his insight on news, money and other issues, this is going to be the tv version of the train wreck of his failed last 5 years in radio. I don’t need to say anymore on that, but this is a one-way street for him to say something stupid, really stupid this time.

I don’t know who the old guy is, but he is a meatball, which works well with Mike, but as we all know, North doesn’t give anyone a chance to make their point once they starting punching holes in his own. By the way, he is a fricken hillbilly, he had a box of cereal next to his chair for the whole show, the combing the hair on the air and that stupid ass waving like a idiot to the camera as they went to break just shows why he is as less of a professional as anyone to be on the air or tv.

Of course Pappy gave the whole “we are just starting out” speech, which of course he gave for the webio, Comcast, wildfire excuse, which is fine, but I came to this conclusion, Pappy isn’t needed on that show, you have jigs, you have Savage and the old meatball news guy, what the hell does North have to offer, nothing, he really offered nothing to the show today, he isn’t needed. North cant drive the show like Jigs, if anyone gets launched one day, my money is on North.

This show…..really, it isn’t worth my time or anyone’s because it wont last long.

I caught the first 15 minutes. Seemed like Mike was taking back the PTI format that he invented, except with "a black guy, 2 white guys, and a cougar chick". First cringeworthy moment at about 30 seconds into the show when he started yelling "COUGAR" when introducing Terry Savage for the first time.

I'll probably watch it a couple times just because I'm that guy that likes to see if something gets "fun bad" but I don't think it will be. The 2 minute open-forum is wrong. RV is right - maybe 15 minute chunks would work better but watching Terry Savage interrupt to chime in that the Pro Bowl had its biggest attendance ever which she obviously read from her "cheat sheet" and North had already mentioned just seemed forced and a waste of 20 seconds.

I know it's the first day but I assume they did some run-throughs on this. I'll still watch some of it this week just like I did the beginning of the Comcast show.

For those of you who didn't catch it, or can't (as you are out of area etc), they put up a bunch of 1-2 minute video clips of the show on CBS2's website: http://cbs2chicago.com/monstersandmoney

Mike North just seems like a bizarre trainwreck to me at this point, and you have to imagine that the suits in NY/LA would do quite a bit of reeming if they ever actually watched this guy babble. If you go to the first video listed, you can see a quick interview with Mike at his CBS2 cubicle ... just so strange.

I heard the transition today on 670 where they were giggling about this show, but it has to be so strange for a guy like Boers (or even McNeil) to see what North has become.

All I know is that this type of show is something you'd expect to see in Tulsa, Memphis or Kansas City - NOT Chicago. It's embarassing, and I continue to be stunned that people with power get conned by the unprofessional and sloppy North.

Phil Rosenthal doing the work usually reserved for RodeoVann this morning.

Some gems:
Quote:
Still 5 a.m. "For anybody who's listening not watching, it says 'Cereal Sponsor Needed,' " Savage notes, either anticipating a radio simulcast or a distracted audience. North says: "If you're not watching, you're not seeing us. No. 2, I think the people out there can read, otherwise we're in trouble."

5:03 p.m. Jiggetts leads a discussion of the Toyota recall. North calls it "their Katrina."

5:54 a.m. North is touting a bankruptcy law firm in an ad. Hmmm. What comes to mind when you think of legal problems, money problems and Mike North?

6:35 a.m. Jiggetts says "some sources tell me that the Times of London says the Goldman Sachs CEO is thumbing his nose at President Obama" by taking a $100 million bonus. Jiggetts needs multiple unnamed sources to know what's in the Times of London? He can't just read the story?

6:55 a.m. As "Terry's tip for the day," Savage touts that morning's Chicago Sun-Times column on new credit-card laws, reminding people to read the fine print when sent notices from lenders. North, bless him, says: "Mike's tip for the day is wear a jacket when you go out. It's cold outside."

Thats good stuff. No one is busy getting ready in the am and has the tv on in the background.

watched some clips on cbs2 website. all I can say is how does the executive that green lighted this show have a job in broadcasting? hey teri, ask mikey about the webio scam, the dontfademe scam, the comcast dumping, his wife as COO of the webio scam. lets hear all of mikey's excuses/lies. this show will be shitcanned, but the exec. who came up with this abortion will let it stay on for at least a couple months otherwise he would look even worse. I like how nort says in an interview with ed sherman for crains blog that he doesn't want to talk about his financial arrangement for the show. maybe because he is making no money.
mikey, move to las vegas and scam that town until you take a dirt nap cause ur 15 minutes are up here in chicago.

For all the people wondering why CBS would do this, they were getting smoked in that timeslot anyway, so the guy who greenlit this is in no trouble.

Theyre using a local name and brand to try and draw ratings. Its not the worst idea ever.

Im quite certain the people who put this together know Mike is a moron, theyre counting on it actually.

read your second sentence again. you might want to re-think it. they were not getting ratings at comcast in the same time period why will nort/jiggs get ratings on channel 2? if u want a local name/retread their are plenty of better alternatives than nort. nort won't say how much he is getting paid for the show either. that is why he got the gig, cause cbs is not payin him shit.

So you agree its a good move?

Let me put this another way. They were in LAST PLACE. They have nowhere to go but up. Trying a weird thing like this is their only hope. Im not saying it will work, but its not a terrible idea considering their ratings.

Maybe an early morning show with some seasoned newsmen (Bob Sirot & Walter Jacobsen as example) with the same format would be more interesting.

What's smokin' CBS2 in morning drive is ABC7's own dawn patrol newscast with Hosea Sanders & Judy Hsu, which also starts at 5a. I don't think Hosea & Judy, let alone NBC5's Jimmy Fallon-looking Rob Elgas and the America Ferrera-looking Zoraida Sambolin, have anything to worry about...

i understand your point. the problem is nort hasn't got decent ratings for 15 yrs. his time is done. the ratings needle might get a little boost as all the people who like to watch car accidents tune in, but like the comcast show it will drop back down to last place. replace north with bob sirott and the show might have a chance.

The camera work needs some improvement. Multiple times there were people moving in the background and other times there were shots of the back of people's heads. It made for some awkward tv.

He calls in occasionally as North Side J. He was a bit multy back in the day and appeared on a news broadcast.

This was horrible on all levels. According to Bernstein's peeps ( ) the financial guy is the real boob of the group. Why cant North just give up and go back to the Score for the hundred grand he is worth and be paired with Jiggs or Buffone again. I liked him better that way.

Where would they fit in now since The Score's beating MVP on every show (or most of 'em) in the ratings book?

 If I were MVP, I'd try to get them over there in the morning (if they're contractually allowed) to go head-to-head with M&H.

This Monster & Money thing just seems confusing. Just a bunch of stuff.

I had the TiVO set, got up my usual 4:59 and flipped on Channel 7. After the first cup of coffee I switched over to the show around 5:20. I say this because getting up that early (usually no alarm clock) you become somewhat a creature of habit, and that extends to the morning viewing habits as well.

That said, the show isn't likely to appeal to the remaining viewers CBS2 had before the switch. The two-minute segments are needed because at that time in the morning I don't have the time or attention span to follow a 15-minute segment on anything, so 2 minutes is preferred.

The bigger problem is that North not only belongs on radio but now more as a sidekick than the feature host. Take the Mac & Spiegs argument about parity in their billing, and reverse it as North with a crew of 5 or 6 is not only not the top dog put pulling up the rear. What once may have been considered irreverent is now just stale ignorance. Kind of like Mike Murphy having never been in a locker room, Mike North seems to hold to the notion that he's never read a good book. And not necessarily non-fiction.

This show is terrible. Just watched the first half hour, which I'll never be able to get back. Looks like they've put a muzzle on North and he is itching to tear it off. This is like an uncomfortable, forced conversation on boring topics that are, in some cases, weeks old. Just terrible content. It is like there are three adults at the table and one of them, Jiggs, has brought his disabled, spastic cousin with them. He blurts out crap to "Jiggs" every few minutes as if he has tourettes. Otherwise he has nothing to offer. He clearly doesn't understand the topics and just blurts like a certified moron. Just terrible TV but a little fun to watch once in the same way that Faces of Death or a youtube video of skateboarding wipeouts is.
