Bud Dude, personally I am not a big proponent of the Strat. If you want to stay center strip a little research will garner a price point equal to the Strat. (excalibur, IP, Flamingo, Pho). If you want to stay away from center strip I would recommend looking into the M. A gorgeous property(locals flock here) with all the amenities of true 4 star center strip hotels at 1/2 the price.

Also, a property that should not be overlooked is the Orleans (boyd facility), and has free shuttles that run to the strip continously. Cheap eats (fuddruckers comes to mind) bowling alley, family oriented with decent vp pay tables. Black Jack is primarilly 3/2 compared to strip casinos that have recently instituted 6/5.

doug-fyi the monorail has been a huge dissappointment and recently filed for bankruptcy. The terminals are placed at the rear of most casinos and a huge inconveniance for easy travel.

If your going to use cheap transp. in LV the Deuce is your mode of transportation.

Stratosphere out by nothing, the prices reflect it

One good thing is a gambling supply store not far (walking distance) with some cool stuff.

May as well go Riviera!

I stayed there maybe 10 years ago in the Bob Hope suite! I think they still had a TV Bob used!

Thats where we met Tygee Armstrong. lol

The rides at the top of the strat are pretty cool, other then that doesn't do much for me. However you will see alot of people from the UK staying here. The ill informed overseas book with a travel agent and they push both the Strat and Circus Circus.

Bigfan if your reference is to The Bonanza Gift Shop (worlds largest gift shop so they claim) , what a place , tacky gifts and the greeter at the door is an armed guard

Dont think it was a Gift shop, actual gambling supply shop, prior to poker getting hot I got a full case of chips with custom $$$ amounts printed on them.

They had tables, cards, dice, tons of stuff that said CANT BE SHIPPED OUT OF STATE

You are 100% correct big, can't recall the name or if it is still there. Should be located near the current reality TV show Pawn Stars (fun place to visit if you enjoy the show)

I for one appreciate all of the inside tips JumboFrank. I just recently (2007) started visiting Vegas and while I don't gamble, I'd like to learn.

So far, in chronological order, here is where I have stayed:

Venetian
Hard Rock Hotel
Summerlin JW Marriott Resort
MGM Grand
Flamingo

I would have to say that the Venetian is the best, followed by the Hard Rock. The biggest dump in the history of enclosed hotels has to be FLAMINGO. I would rather have slept outside. Rust in rooms, short shower head, smelly - was left behind in 1985.

Anyway, I digress. I appreciate the info on racking up free stuff (always sounded easier than it is - I only play roulette) and slipping a $20. I'm going to Scottsdale and will try it there and later on in Vegas...Will report back.

Thank you

Thanks Razor, The Venetian is absolutely beautiful. One turn off for me is amount of fragrance they pump through the HVAC system. The smell can be overpowering. Suprised you enjoyed the Hard Rock over MGM. Flamingo has its detractors for sure, low ceilings, outdated gaming floor. However, for a reasonable price the GO rooms are decent with the following amenities:

"GO with a VIEW, these inviting and innovative rooms feature sleek, modern furniture and indulge tech-savvy guests with digital accessories: premium sound system, iPod® docking station, CD/DVD player, electronic window treatments, 42" High Definition flat panel television with HDTV and wireless internet connections (fees apply). GO Deluxe bathrooms include stylish frosted glass walls and doors, Delta jetted shower fixtures, TV screens built in the mirrors and luxurious bath amenities by Gilchrist & Soames®. "

Wouldn't recommend this room with a family however, the bathroom door is lightly frosted. Absolutely no privacy.

There are actually websites that track the $20.00 trick/tip/bribe acceptance at popular LV hotels. Who knows if the info reported is accurate.
