Good god. I don't watch Chicago Tonight, but decided to take a look at it last night given all of the craziness happening in the elections this past week.

And lo and behold--one of the "experts" on the panel: Mike frikking North!?!?!? WTF??

Joel Weisman introduced North as representing cbs "NEWS"--as if this clown is a journalist.

I probably shouldn't be surprised, but I was amazed at his complete ignorance of anything related to the last week's news!!

What was even more insane was his inability to follow the conversation going on between Weisman and the other panelists. Talking about Scott Lee Cohen, Weisman mentions that Cohen had revealed his arrest for domestic violence last year at the start of his campaign. Not more than a minute later, North was in wonderment about "the brazenness" of Cohen running for Lt. governor, "keeping quiet, maybe he should have come out at the beginning" about his transgressions.

It was funny to see Mike Flannery and Weisman say, "yea, he did that, Mike."

Seriously, though--having a complete idiot on the program seriously compromises the value of WTTW. Isn't public television where we're supposed to go for more "serious" commentary?

The whole panel was bad, but I guess that was inevitable leading off with North.

Yah, well, I wouldn't be using this show (with Mikey as a panel guest) as a "reason" to support WTTW. You have to imagine that the other people on the panel were just baffled when North started his cackling or started talking in circles (his go to move).

Yikes. channel 11.

No, really, the other panelists were just as bad. The other CBS guy (is he on M&MitM?) was as big a clown as North and Mary Mitchell wasn't really much help. I was excited to see this episode when it aired because I thought they'd bring out the 'heavy hitters' for post-primary coverage but instead you got 20 mins of scandal talk.

I don't recall verbatim what he said about any topic, but on several occasions his eyes bugged out and steam emitted from his ears.

North has to be at work in less than 6 hrs. Hopefully he started drinking again and is too hungover to talk about the impact of the saints victory on the market.

I just watched the whole show on the wttw web site. It seems like the only reason North was really on the show was for the two minutes at the end spent on the Super Bowl. On all other (political) subjects he seemed hopelessly lost and befuddled. His main comment was "None of dese guys running got any charisma". He added absolutely nothing positive to the discussion.

Oh yeah, does he own a coat or tie? And identifying him as from CBS News: priceless.

Yeah, interesting. He didn't say anything. I'm not sure if you're implying this, but your comment made me remember that North himself got caught soliciting a prostitute a few years back--(for what it's worth, the charges were dropped).

Idiotic on politics, dimwitted on his supposed "specialty"= Mike North
