One listen a year while sipping some foo foo drink is enough J.B. for me. :drunken:

I don't know how anybody could listen to Buffet over and over.
That's something that would end up in music hell....Buffet induced torture.

I agree that Jimmy (Olde Country) Buffet is the ringmaster of a booze and stoner fest during his concerts, and his music is rather pedestrian.

Unfortunately Matty Microphone shits all over the musical genius known as "UFO" - therefore he is nothing more than the lead singer of a cover band with a music critic opinion. If I'm not mistaken, he loathes the Bodeans also.

In other words, Matt is this movie character that moonlights at a sportsradio station:

Who overrates Jimmy Buffet? He's a guy with a following of people that are completely wasted who, if sober, wouldn't think he was that great.

Probably be a fun show, drinking some tropical drinks in the sunshine. Other than that, nah.

Barney for adults is what I've heard about Jimmy Buffet...

He's not for everybody, but those who only know him by the couple of songs played on the radio (Speigel included) really don't have a basis to criticize. IMO he loses credibility for making a declaration regarding something which he admittedly knows little about (think North and Fred commenting on Rap).

My fiance's parents listen to his Sirius station non stop. All of the songs in his catalog sound the same. I would also be willing to bet that 50% of the people at his shows can't name more than 5 songs of his.

It's not really the music that makes me hate the guy, its the way he has whored him self out to everything. He has sold himself more times than a saigon whore.

Having been in a parking lot for a tailgate of his, the atmosphere is pretty cool. Having heard roughly the first 90 minutes of his show, I don't need to hear any more of his songs (on the radio or not) to know that he sucks.

He's kinda of a good example of the American Dream. Decent enough talent-wise, but working hard and self promoting his way to millionaire status. Can't knock that.

I don't really care for his music, but I have to admire his ability to parlay that fluff into a gold mine...

I'm always amused when poeple on this board get their panties in a twist over someone else's musical tastes, then get all butthurt when someone makes fun of their own.

So if Spiegs liked Buffett he would be a douche to you? I am a Buffett fan, but can see why a lot of people cant stand him. There are about a dozen songs of his I consider very good, the rest is just fun background music. I have no problem with Meatpants saying he sucks, but then to turn around and say he hasnt heard a lot kind of shoots down the argument.

This is my feeling. My wife is a big fan. I stopped going to the shows probably 4 or 5 years
ago. I don't care for the music and a lot of the people there really overload on the liquor and
end up acting like jackasses. The last of his shows I attended I ended up babysitting a drunk
girl who would have certainly been taken advantage of later. That was it for me, I missed
the entire show and didn't get to have any beer myself. The guy can market himself and his
BRAND like nobody's business. Just keep me away from it.

Jimmy Buffet or Matty Microphone?

Buffet is long past millionaire status. Matt better get more Tributosorass gigs lined up.

These jackasses pay around $50, that's the difference.

If I wanted to act like a drunk dumbass around people watching an inferior product, I would just go to a Sox game.

Frank, I am all for tossing a few back and enjoying the scene. Stumbling all over the
parking lot, spilling on people, and vomiting in front of others is another story completely.
The last few years I attended, I went on a rented bus. When parking with the other bussed
in groups, this was the kind of behavior I was accustomed to. Not trying to be a prude, but
at least I gave up the public puking back in high school.

In other words, I guess this is a small part of the reason I no longer go
