Get out the handcuffs, as far as I'm concerned.

I was suprised they didn't suspend him for the season. It was equivalent to Martin throwing McMahon in 86. He will win douchebag of the week. How is Gurode doing?

Agreed Nas. I think it will soon be illegal to hit someone too hard.

The closest example to what Haynesworth did in modern day sports was what Bertuzzi did to Steve Moore. And he got the indefinite suspension.

......I smell hockey in this forum.......and on a controversial issue no less...someone threw chum in the water.

I think that both acts are rephrehensible, and both got inadequate suspensions as far as I'm concerned. Steve Moore's injury was more significant, but the more reprehensible aspect of that situation was Bertuzzi's violation of what is generally accepted to be hockey code. Moore put a borderline hit on Canucks star Markus Naslund, and as such, the next time around, had to answer the bell in a fight at the beginning of the game with Brad May of the Canucks, which should have been the end of it. But the Bertuzzi hit came at the end of the game, when Colorado was beating the crap out of Vancouver, and Moore had already gotten his come uppance. While Bertuzzi's suspension was indefinite, he ended up missing a grand total of 25 games, regular season and playoffs, which does not include the lockout year. If it were me for that one, I would have given him 50 without pay, and fined him a million dollars in addition to that, especially because it effectively ended Moore's career.

As with the Bertuzzi hit, Haynesworth attacked a fellow player in a prone position, much more so than Moore even was, with intent to severely injure. I think that the Haynesworth incident has more of a chance to of criminal charges sticking due to hockey having a much higher level of accepted "fighting" within the sport, which ended up graying the issue with Bertuzzi and getting the charges dismissed. And I think Haynesworth should miss the rest of the season without pay, and have a similar million dollar fine.

One could even make a case that if you're going to suspend a guy a year for smoking weed, then you have to really up the ante for someone severly and intentionally injuring another player, which I would not have a problem with at all.

Agreed, and I actually thought about what Ricky Williams would have said once he heard about the suspension. Then I laughed when I realized that Ricky Williams is a burn out and probably couldn't care less about the NFL anymore.
